A summer daytime register office followed by a nice restaurant wedding

Can I wear this to a wedding?

I would wear that to a festival with cowboy boots or trainers, not a wedding. I might even pop it over a bikini on the beach and shove it in a beach bag when I take it off. It’s too white and too casual for a a wedding IMO.

It would look brilliant with cowboy boots though. And long flowy wavy hair

It’s got a retro “Sienna Miller/Kate Moss at Glastonbury” vibe.

No bad thing! If the wedding is quite casual it’ll look great. I like the style and the quality seems good.

Some of the comments are unnecessarily snarky tbh.

Sorry Fun, I quoted you in error. The snarky comment was not aimed at you !

OP - this is the sort of thing you're supposed to wear as a wedding guest. I've seen it turn up to great approval on many wedding guest threads. It's awful. Stick to your guns and wear your dress.

Wrap dress

To be fair I think thats just as horrific

jackstini · 07/07/2024 15:50

No. Agree it's too white

Plus long sleeves might be too hot depending on air con/summer wedding weather

Would look great at a festival with boots and boho hair

Or folk music gig

What style is the restaurant though? If it's a very casual bohemian style then just maybe...

£135 though?! Shock

The full price is £450.

I'm puzzled why you think it would only be suitable if the restaurant were very casual or bohemian.

I hope the OP sticks to her guns. It's a nice, interesting dress and fine for the occasion.

jackstini · 07/07/2024 16:57

£450!! @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - I'm a bit shocked as that's just way over anything I'd ever spend (I've got a couple of quite similar dresses I wear over bikinis on holiday and one was £15, one £42) but each to their own. Dress is ok, just wasn't sure for a wedding

Was considering if it's a restaurant with a particular vibe or dress code that's all. Some are very 'cocktail dress' or high glamour

Will depend on the wedding couple too and what style of wedding they are going for

SuncreamAndIceCream · 07/07/2024 18:35

You've all talked me out of wearing it for the wedding, but if it looks nice on I will probably keep it as a summer dress.

I've been browsing the Stine Goya sale and have come up with some colourful options instead. They're not cotton though, which is what I liked about the original dress

That's a shame although I like Stine Goya too.

CharlotteRumpling · 07/07/2024 18:50

Oh wear it. It's not to my taste and neither are the horrible Yumi dress or the Stine Goyas, but it's fine and not inappropriate

£450? It’s about 10 times too much!

EasterlyDirections · 07/07/2024 19:13

No, partly because its white, partly too casual, partly because even on the model it is deeply unflattering.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2024 19:21

This dress looks like a DFS sofa

And it's not being snarky, just honest. If Op didn't want opinions they wouldn't post on a forum

I prefer the first dress to the new suggestions

Does it crease when you sit down? I'm always wary of satin-y things looking like they need an iron as soon as you put it on

I like it a lot though.

I like it & think it's perfect. Modern & fresh. I often see these threads where an alternative is suggested along the lines of a Debenhams special with a bolero jacket. I think maybe quite a few posters here are out-of touch when it comes to what people are wearing to weddings.

I shouldn't think so. I don't own but have seen it in Harvey Nicks. From memory the material is , not thin, slightly textured which with the bold pattern will hide any creasing.

Reddog1 · 07/07/2024 22:24

That green polyester Yumi frock looks cheap and sweaty.
