Caribbean theme night

Hi all,

I'm going on a cruise next month and they have a Caribbean dress night. I need to find something I will ideally wear again. I'm size 10, early/mid 44 and have good boobs. I like jumpsuits and plunging necklines but prefer not to have my back out.... any suggestions please? Flowers

Interesting …

Must say my Caribbean relatives tend to wear navy blazer type suits for work and jeans and t shirts off duty. I do hope your cruise ship isn’t encouraging ridiculous stereotypes regarding the dressing style of a whole country?

That said Grin if you want to reference a sort of Carnival vibe, places like:

Lisou
Farm Rio
Alemais
La Double J

might work.

Kemi Telford references Africa rather than the Caribbean - but one of her fabulous long skirts would be impressive with an off the shoulder top.

To do it properly of course you’d need to wear clothes by Caribbean designers. This might be a good starting point:

Caribbean theme night.. on a cruise.. yikes what a brief!

If you can find them Zemi Antigua do some stunning t-shirts.

I've been on a few cruises now, honestly, don't get hung up on this, a lot of people won't do it.

I would wear something bright, even buy a couple of cheap flower garlands and put them on - I know not technically Caribbean, but no one cares! Garlands also save on luggage space.

It's the same for any of the theme nights - white nights, 80's night etc, some people go full out, the majority don't, it's still fun. You aren't denied entry or look silly if you don't do it.

If you want to find a bit more about what people are doing, there will be a forum on Facebook for your cruise ship, more than likely an event for your sailing. Have fun!

Thanks all. I love bright colours and patterns anyway so this bodes well

That's like saying oh I know it's French theme but wear a kilt

Thejackrussellsrule · 07/07/2024 16:44

@tuturnipsarelush ha ha! It is a bit, but honestly, vaguely on theme is fine. Went to an 80's party on the last cruise, people wore all sorts and the music varied from 70s to 90s, it's very casual!

TroysMammy · 07/07/2024 16:49

Just wear a Bob Marley t-shirt or channel your inner Rusty Lee or Ainsley.

Oh god please dont

JC03745 · 07/07/2024 17:03

I'd just wear a bright, floral dress and put some flowery hair clips in. Take along a little umbrella and pineapple themed straw for your drink. Unless you were thinking Carnival type thing with masses of feathers? I'd keep it simple! Otherwise you wouldn't fit through the doors! 😆

Are you going on the same cruise as the OP? 😁

fluckityfluckfluck · 07/07/2024 18:32

I'm thinking flowery/multi coloured patterned dress or jumpsuit

I live in the Caribbean.
Whenever my kids have to dress like this for school they wear all white with a madras fabric accessory (like a hand fan). Other kids wear madras skirts with a white blouse.

fluckityfluckfluck · 07/07/2024 19:50

I like that first next one - well I like the print and colours, not so keen on the top of it. Thanks though!

I lived in the Caribbean for years. People wear anything and everything. How about this but it might be a bit flimsy?

PostPopper · 09/07/2024 19:50

Also been on a few cruises and agree most people don’t bother with this except in a loose, wear the brightest dress you happen to have with you, sort of way.

But just popped on to say do not take a pineapple straw as a pp suggested, or wear pineapples at all unless you know what that means on a cruise!!

fluckityfluckfluck · 11/07/2024 06:54

Haha understood Grin
