White patches on back

I have noticed several white patches on my skin on my back where it hasn't tanned (I wouldn't notice anything in winter). They aren't raised or in any way itchy. They just look like vitiligo maybe but is it? And why would I start getting it age 50?!

I had something like this and found that it was a yeast infection. I was given anti fungal shampoo for it (Nizoral).
I found this info on the NHS website:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-versicolor/

I think I got it when I was on the contraceptive pill, but not really sure if that had anything to do with it.

It cleared up in any case and I haven’t had it since.

Pityriasis versicolor

Find out about pityriasis versicolor (sometimes called tinea versicolor), including what the symptoms are, how it’s treated and how you get it.

Gosh a fungal thing. How weird. But good if it is as I had assumed the patches might be permanent. Thank you @BigBurrata

Yes it was surprising!
i had also been getting thrush fairly often while I was on the pill, so in my case I think it was related to that.
I can’t remember how many treatments I had to do, or how long to keep the shampoo on each time, but I do remember stupidly washing the shampoo off while I was in the bath, and that gave me thrush again 😩
so definitely wash off in the shower!!
