DD has work experience coming up in law firm. They said "smart casual" but she's 15 and everything she owns is "casual casual" or "party". The best she's got is a cropped fitted T shirt (not a high crop, just on the waist). Really at a loss as I work with little kids but I'm sure some of you can help.

Don't want to splash too much cash, so we'll probably end up on Vinted. But any examples / ideas of what would be appropriate for her age plus environment would be a start. She needs a week's worth of clothes.

If she has a pair of wide leg black trousers rather than a skirt then you don't need to worry about tights/skirt length/sock issues. Wide leg because they are better in the heat.
Then a t-shirt or shirt that is fitted/tucked in. She can wear the same trousers all week and rotate 2 or 3 different tops. Don't bother with waistcoats or jackets, they are not necessary. She needs to look clean and ready to work - make sure she has a notebook and pen to hand so she can write down any instructions to be sure of doing things correctly.

I work in banking and actually a lot of the suggestions here are too formal for business casual!!!

The uniform for our grads and apprentices is basically wide leg trousers (Sloane from Abercrombie and Fitch is the classic example) in a neutral colour (black/tan/navy) then a fitted plain T shirt in a contrasting neutral so white T with navy/tan trousers, black T with tan trousers).

I would go with the school loafers with this combo on day 1 and then downgrade to trainers if it seems acceptable. You could grab an oversized blazer off Vinted to allow a formal upgrade if required e.g. invited to important meeting.

The loose trousers are a good call not to worry about tights/ socks/ shoes etc. I think we will go with that. A good, fitted T shirt will always be useful.

Can you recommend where to get one?

My daughter is currently doing work experience. She has black trousers, grey trousers, some smart draped tops from H&M, fitted slim t shirts from M&S and Zara worn with black loafers. Some girls wear floaty floral dresses but not her style.

All my life, interview, first day on the job clothes have been black/navy trousers and shirt/blouse of whatever colour, with comfortable shoes - done me proud the past 40+ years

If all I have had are trainers, as long as they have been black - no comment

Its taken me to reach 59 and now dress code is jeans - any shape syle, trainers - any colour or style. I still worked my first day in Black trousers and white blouse
