Waistcoats! Do they look daft wearing with matching trousers and jacket?

I've bought this suit in the sale and I really like it. The jacket, trousers and waistcoat all fit me really well. I've been looking for a waistcoat that fits for ages but now I've got one I'm not entirely sure how to style it! Do I wear the whole suit together? I've tried it all on together and it looks a bit masculine on me. Are wainscots supposed to be worn with contrasting trousers/jeans? Help stylish people!

I have a black set I wear all together and love it! Nothing underneath the waistcoat to keep it current. I’m less of a fan of waistcoats with jeans etc, I think it is less sleek. So go for it!

Ok fabulous @CarolynKnappShappeyShipwright. I might need to wear a little vest under my waistcoat though as I'm completely flat chested so the waist gapes and you can see my bra/lack of boobs.

It sounds as if you need to take the waistcoat to a tailor for alteration so it will fit you exactly.

The beauty of a three piece suit is that you can wear all three together, or any two with something else, or just one piece mixed with other clothes.

The only thing that might look odd at the moment would be the waistcoat over a shirt - it’s just not current.

I have a photo of me in a three piece combo like that from 1976 when it was a uniform type thing. I need to dig it out. 🤗

@BetsyRegards I think the waistcoat fits but I just really hate my chest area as it's really scrawny, bony and I'm so flat chested. I would have probably preferred a high necked waistcoat but I love the colour of this Reiss one so just went for it.

If you zoom in on the Max Mara picture of the cream suit you can see the model is wearing something underneath it. Looks fine.

Sorry - I might not have expressed myself well! Didn’t mean the OP shouldn’t wear a vest type thing underneath if she wants, just that if she’s doing it out of necessity then alteration might help.

But I do think a long sleeved shirt just wouldn’t look right now.
