Clueless re undergarments

Help I am going to a wedding soon and wearing a pale pink fine blouse as part of my outfit it isn't a very formal occasion. I'm not a going out very much person so I have white bras and blacks bras and a flesh one and they're on a bit of an industrial scale as I'm 38 F, so nothing delicate or fragile will suspend my chest. My aim is to try and underplay my chest but a white bra seems to outline them, so the question is ...do I go for flesh coloured bra, or a light camisole and if so what colour, or if anyone has any other suggestion that would be great.

The top has a slight frill to the neckline which adds a bit of feminity to the outfit, has a v neck and sits nicely loose over my chest which plays it down a bit so I'm reluctant to try an alternative, just need guidance on what is best underneath.

This might sound crazy, but give it a go. I’m olive skinned and wear a 36F cup. I don’t wear white (reminds me of school) or beige/nude (makes my boobs look as if they are made of cardboard!!),but surprisingly red works for me.

The red actually blends in with lighter colours, so the appearance is a soft pink which is very delicate to the eye. For example, over white, the appearance mixes and blends to a very pale pink. Likewise over pink itself.

Some may disagree with me here, but it suits my complexion, and others, don’t knock it until you have tried it.

Bravissimo and John Lewis are good for larger cup sizes and variety.

I agree that red does often work better. Another option would be one of Me+Em’s fashion first aid camisoles which often work for me when nothing else does.

Cheeesus · 28/06/2024 13:29

I would go for flesh bra and possibly pale pink vest top.

Tinytimmy123 · 30/06/2024 14:55

Thank you all for the help. I will take myself to m&s and bring the top and give the red a and flesh coloured bras a go to see which works best.

Starlightlady when I read your reply it did ring a bell where I maybe read that somewhere before about red bras but sort of pooh poohed it at the time. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again.

I wear red or pale pink under pale coloured clothes (I'm very fair skinned). It doesn't show!

What about this. I have a few of these tops and great under lightweight / transparent fabrics, or dresses where low cut - very comfortable too https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/airism-sleeveless-camisole-bra-top-465708.html?dwvar_465708_color=COL30&dwvar_465708_size=SMA001

Because no matter what brand, even on the XXXL which is probably a size 14, the 'cups' will never be more than a C cup so absolutely useless for anyone above that.
If anyone knows of any that actually have vest/cami tops with proper D+ cups in, preferably underwired so we don't get the monoboob, please post a link.

NotMeNoNo · 30/06/2024 15:55

Definitely a nude bra, under light or sheer tops. Ideally a smooth one like Elomi

fernsandlilies · 30/06/2024 15:59

If you’re going bra shopping, I’m going to add the usual message about measuring yourself for bras. 38 is a large back size, do you actually measure 38inches around your ribs?

maybe book a fitting at Bravissimo to get an up to date bra size, you can always go to M&S to buy once you’re sorted on size. Don’t get fitted at M&S.

boob or bust measuring tool;

I am a size 20, 42C and the XXL fits me, but appreciate that maybe a large cup would struggle. Go by the sizing on Uniqlo's charts for the actual item. I believed that they'd be too small for me and they're not, so now have a few of these and work great as a smoother under dresses too.

Nude or pink bra, smooth cups, wide band to reduce back fat overspill

Just checked in the mirror; it’s not.

Settled on a pale pink bra, main reason is that it is closest to my pasty pink skin and is also close to the colour of the top itself. I will be putting on a bit of fake tan for the occasion so I don't end up looking unwell. 👻 I will get alot of wear out of it too. I was very tempted by the red but due to the cut of the top flashes of it could be seen through arm holes. This could be seen as a little bit sexy except im more wallflower than vamp ! 😊 Thanks to everyone for the help.
