What does everyone wear
Normally a hoodie and leggings but I'm always red hot and flustered

It's gonna be around 30/32 degrees when we land at 1pm and I also want to look stylish and put together

I wear 3/4 trousers t shirt and a hoodie or cardi you can shove it in a bag. I'm not sure how stylish I look but I'm.not roasting.

For -3 to 30 (London to Caribbean in December) I did loose yoga trousers, thin t-shirt, cashmere jumper, packable puffer jacket. Just leave enough room in your hand luggage to shove the outer layers in, and then you can adapt as necessary. I find planes cold, so I like lots of layers.

doyoulikemyyams · 21/06/2024 16:59

Loose trousers, a strappy top, and a thin jumper, plus a big scarf that can double as a blanket on the plane and then go into / tie around the handle of your hand luggage when you get off at the other end.

Then big sunglasses and jewellery to 'dress it up' if stylish is important to you at the other end.

We go to Greece in August and it is like a furnace when we arrive. I've got a couple of loose jersey sleeveless jumpsuits in black and navy which have culotte length wide legs. I usually wear one of those with white trainers and denim jacket. Toning scarf which can double up as a sarong when I'm there but adds an extra layer for the plane. I always wear trainer socks so there's extra warmth as my feet always get cold on a plane. I drop a pair of beaded flip flops in my bag and swap trainers for them before we land.

DappledThings · 21/06/2024 17:08

I just wear normal jeans and trainers and have a shower and change as soon as I get to accommodation. Unless you've got a long hike to your hotel it doesn't really make much difference if you're a bit overdressed layers wise for a bit in what will almost certainly be an air-conditioned form of transport.

Whatineed · 21/06/2024 17:10

Usually loose light cotton palazzo style pants, (normally patterned in case I spill a drink or something! ) with a T shirt and usually a small light denim jacket. This year I've bought a cropped linen bomber jacket which I'll wear instead.

As mentioned by a pp I have a soft throw/pashmina type thing for extra warmth on the cold side and on the plane. Sometimes I do pack a pair of shorts into my hand luggage and put them on before landing. Depends on how white my legs are the destination and landing time.

AutieAdult · 21/06/2024 17:14

What will you be doing- will you actually get into the heat or go from air conditioned airport to air conditioned bus or train and hotel?

If you will go into heat layers as I find the plane can be cold.

rickysally · 21/06/2024 17:16

@NeedWineNow yes it's Greece we are going too
We are going to Rhodes

rickysally · 21/06/2024 17:17

@AutieAdult we have booked a private taxi so I'm assuming it will have air con

SeeingRainbowsInTheGloom · 21/06/2024 17:19

A comfortable short sleeve dress with pashmina/scarf. For a flight that is just to Rhodes (assuming you are in Europe already!) you probably won't get cold on the flight and airports are usually boiling in my experience. Else, Palazzo pants are a good alternative.

NeedWineNow · 21/06/2024 17:24

@rickysally Have a great time!

DoublePeonies · 21/06/2024 17:30

Why can't you wear the leggings and hoodie, with a vest top underneath. Take off hoodie, and you aren't massively overdressed.
I tend to go for wide legged trousers, but never wear leggings so they aren't in my wardrobe, and then a top suitable for the hot end, and a jumper suitable for the cold end.

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/06/2024 17:31

Just take off the hoodie when you get there, or keep it on if ac is fierce.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 21/06/2024 18:27

Simple - dress for 30 degrees and stick a jumper/cardi over it - remove cardi before leaving the plane.

If it's cold when we leave for somewhere hot we also might wear trainers, pack sandals in hand luggage and change as soon as we get into the airport at destination.

TheChosenTwo · 21/06/2024 18:29

I usually go in my usual U.K. clothes as I tend to get off the plane, maybe 2 minutes outside before heading into an air conditioned airport, then into a car (again air con) driven to a hotel (more aircon), even at 30 degrees I’m fine for a few minutes in leggings and a sweatshirt!

mdinbc · 21/06/2024 21:21

The last time I flew from cool to hot I wore black vest top, black wide leg yoga trousers and a cardigan. I always wear close-toe shoes for flying, something I can wear with socks. The socks and cardigan go into my bag before landing.

I know these might not be considered for younger people, but you can wear with socks, and can be worn for sightseeing with shorts or a skirt.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 21/06/2024 22:23

I'm not sure why it's a big deal? Surely just layers as you'll only be outside for about 5 mins in between an air conditioned airport & coach?
Get changed into a bikini or whatever once you reach your hotel. A few times we've arrived early and not been able to check into our room until later. We've packed our outfits at the top of the case ready to change into when we arrive - there's usually a changing room or the loos that that you can pop into.

ohthejoys21 · 21/06/2024 22:41

Pair of shorts with sleeveless blouse?

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 21/06/2024 22:52

I have been thinking about this recently 🤔
I normally go for some kind of loose/wide legged trousers and trainers and a t-shirt or vest top with a hoodie over that I can shove in my hand luggage. Thinking of getting some of the airism joggers from Uniqlo this year as they should be nice and cool, and I'm sure I'd get lots of wear out of them.

donttellthem · 22/06/2024 00:47

I'll be going to a Greek island in a couple of weeks. Early morning departure - I'll be wearing what I wore last year for the same kind of flight - khaki coloured (won't show up any grubbiness) Linen trousers and big shirt from Cos with a white or black t-shirt underneath, and a bright pink wrap as a extra layer on the plane. I'll probably wear a pair of birks.

Pontipinecity · 22/06/2024 07:33

I wear an ankle length strapless dress and one of those thin puffer jackets over the top so I’m fully covered in the cold but can stuff the jacket in my bag and it weighs nothing and takes up no space.

OnceICaughtACold · 22/06/2024 07:36

I prefer to wear a dress, with leggings and cardigan for the plane. Can easily slip leggings off in the toilets on arrival or before the plane lands and put them in my bag. I’m really picky though, hate being too hot or cold, would rather swap layers on and off!

Cheeesus · 22/06/2024 07:39

I think the Not Jeans bit is key. Anything that’s isn’t jeans is fine if you layer.

Twilightstarbright · 22/06/2024 07:39

I’m on my way to Greece now! I’m wearing a cotton sundress, cardi, Uniqlo puffer jacket. Easy to put away when not needed. My feet are a tiny bit cold in sandals but I’ve gone car to terminal so it’s NBD.

long haul in winter I wear an empire line maxi dress with leggings underneath, sweatshirt, thermal and the Uniqlo puffer. Just before landing I remove the extra layers so I’m in the dress.

RichTea90 · 22/06/2024 07:50

I went to Greece a couple of weeks ago, and experienced the same, especially challenging given the weather in the UK right now! Praying it warms up!

I wore a loose pair of trousers - Zara have some amazing ones in at the moment.

you can pair them with a nice vest top and a jacket (e.g. denim) or even a cardi or light jumper as the air con on the plane can be quite cool. For footwear, nice pair of sandals or slides, or even smart pair of trainers!
