Best way to remove under chin hairs

Getting to that stage in my life where I get stray under chin hairs. Currently plucking them out

Don't want to spend a lot on the equipment/treatment

I pluck (tweezers, with magnifying mirror and a bright lamp). Very satisfying - the most fun a peri-menopausal woman can have, imo!

Hohofortherobbers · 20/06/2024 21:53

Currently sitting here stroking my bristly chin and contemplating my tweezers and bright light.
I need someone to swear to me they'll keep on top of this in the nursing home one day

Echobelly · 20/06/2024 21:57

I'm finding dermaplaning blades quite good for them (and the lovely ones above my top lip). Perimenopause just keeps on giving...

WhitstablePearl · 20/06/2024 21:57

Plucking is such a joy. That feeling as they exit. Ahhhhhhhhh <lights cigarette>

If they are dark and you have the right skin tone - IPL

Ive been using IPL for coming up a year now, Im not always on the ball , and Im seeing good results

Ive always had dark thick hair on the top lip and chin hair started appearing in my late 20's. NHS paid for electrolysis which kept it away for a good while but it came back

Unfortunately a lot are now white and IPL wont shift those. So I used the wee blades, and zapped. Within a few days the white ones are popping through so I'd use the blade again and zap again. Doing this twice a week and now its only the white ones that pop through and I use a hair removing spring - threading - to whip them away and it stays clear for a week or more

Have had quicker results with under arm and leg hair , chin hair seems determined to be seen

I use an epilator. Just whiz over the chin. You can get special facial ones but I just use a normal one. I can't bear it on my legs but for some reason find it strangely satisfying attacking menopausal chin hairs.

MrsTJOsbornee · 20/06/2024 22:26

I have electrolysis for mine. Was in maintenance before lockdown. The tweezers came back out and they came back. I go now about every 3-4 weeks. I can't have laser as fair skin so won't work. It's a little painful but not unbearable.

Gazelda · 20/06/2024 22:31

I have electrolysis. Used to have 10 mins every 3 weeks, but have reduced over time to only needing 5 mins every 5 weeks. Costs £11 per 5 min session.

And I don't find it painful. The ones on my upper lip are the most sensitive, so I sometimes take a paracetamol an hour before my appt.

Justwantwhatsbestformyfamily · 20/06/2024 22:38

Sorry I’m going to sound dumb right now but what is electrolysis is it like laser? I’m constantly plucking and ruined my chin and I’m dark haired so it’s visible 😭

Higgeldypickeldy · 20/06/2024 22:45

Ooh sorry, that's a horrible link. If you Google flawless hair remover you will find it. You need to use it daily but it woerks really well.

…and a gift that keeps on giving!

Hohofortherobbers, my daughter worked in a nursing home and she had one patient who had to be shaved twice a day. She said she couldn't let her go to dinner, etc., without making sure she looked her best! Hopefully we'll have someone who cares enough when we get to the point!

I personally use a Finishing Touch "razor." It works great. I was a redhead, now silver grey, and any of the other options didn't work, or my skin reacted badly. It's probably the one thing I hate the most about getting older!

early morning with a cup of coffee and next to my windown on a bright sunny day

That's what I'm using. Like a big lipstick. Works well but I'm not sure it's plucking more shaving. Whatever, the white buggers are gone for a couple of days.

Electrolysis .

Same here. Tried the facial ones but the nice plug-in one for legs, with no charging or dealing with batteries, is so much better. Quick whiz every few days, no pain.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 20/06/2024 23:19

@Higgeldypickeldy

I have the exact same one. Doesn't keep them at bay for as long as plucking but far less time consuming. I have mine in my makeup bag and it takes about ten seconds every 2/3 days. Easy!

Ruthietuthie · 21/06/2024 01:04

I wouldn't pluck them. In my case at least, over the years, the hairs became distorted from plucking and then frequently ingrown. I developed scarring and bumps from where the hair was trying to push through. Plus, as more and more emerged, it felt as if a hair was always poking through. It felt awful.
Electrolysis fixed it - laser wasn't suitable as many of my hairs were light or white, although they were wiry.

Oblomov24 · 21/06/2024 05:18

Electrolysis. I only have to have it once or twice a year now. Then you are hair free in between. It's the best and everyone knows it.

junebirthdaygirl · 21/06/2024 07:48

Best place for tweezers is in the car with the sunlight on your face. Have a quick check every day. I have electrolysis but it hasn't made them disappear. Going to have laser in the Autumn as it's not advised to have sunlight on your face during the process. Often think if l was unconscious for any length of time l would be a mess!!"

Which epilator do you have please? Not used one since the monster that was named "epilady" days. Good lord that was a nasty beast to use on the legs 😂

curious79 · 21/06/2024 10:58

if you are fair skinned with dark hair it's the perfect combo for laser.
I've now got some grey ones and they don't respond to laser so need to have electrolysis, that it constantly plucking (with a very high resolution light and strong magnifying mirror)

Comefromaway · 21/06/2024 11:00

Does electrolysis hurt/are there any risks?

CocoapuffPuff · 21/06/2024 11:06

Thanks for that wee shaver link. Ordered. Mine are a mix of wiry dark or white sods and very very fine but inch long wisps that I don't notice till I catch the light properly and realise I look like an old English sheepdog. Deeply horrifying.
