Best way to remove under chin hairs

Auburngal · 20/06/2024 21:28

Getting to that stage in my life where I get stray under chin hairs. Currently plucking them out

Don't want to spend a lot on the equipment/treatment

Dermaplaning for me monthly. It gets rid of all peach fuzz and any random hairs. As it removes dead skin too, i look glowing and fresher too when i’ve had it done, and make up does go on better. ( i do have to pluck the dreaded chin hairs in between tho) 🙈. I blame my age and hormones 😱.

JurassicClark · 21/06/2024 19:24

I used to use tweezers but now that would involve a 90 minute daily commitment; peri menopause is turning me into a werewolf.

I had no idea the downside of having lovely thick hair when young was growing a beard as I got older.

suburburban · 21/06/2024 19:31

I use wax strips, they are faffy

I also have a springy thing as well.

I hate the bristles on the chin.

It's always problematic

The really best place for showing mine up is the car vanity mirror. However, my car is mostly parked on the street outside my house and I don't think it's fair on neighbours and passers-by to see me plucking away. So use magnifying mirrors and a selection good tweezers.

Hospital stays (particularly maternity ones) seem the absolute best for growing them!!

Laser hair removal from a reputable salon, then dermaplane inbetween as you shouldn’t remove the hair from the root whilst having this treatment done

Trust me - they really won’t…

Actually, the carers and nurses at the home my late mum was in used to shave her with a Bic type razor every week or so; she barely noticed them doing it, there's no way she would have stood for having them tweezed out!

Waitformetoarrive · 21/06/2024 21:29

Does an epilator work on the white bum fluff hair too?

3peassuit · 21/06/2024 21:35

I use the twirly spring thing a couple of times a week to keep the little nighters at bay.

NorthernGirlie · 21/06/2024 21:45

What bright lights are you all using please?

Different things work for different people - spent so much money on electrolysis and in the end they actually said save your money.

Threading or Lycon waxing is good temporary but cheap and longer lasting than plucking.

I think the person operating it is key. There are a lot of bad electrolysis technicians out there.

I've decided to buy the hair trimmer lipstick looking thing to use in conjunction with my cheap Lidl IPL laser which seems to have slowed down leg regrowth so I remain optimistic.
However, if I trim chin hair then laser, how long do I have to wait til I can go over it again?
I literally have new coarse, black chin hairs appearing daily and don't want to have to wait for growth cycles. I currently tweeze but read on here somewhere it increases hairs per follicle and already I see dark dots where the hair hasn't broken through skin and I'm going to get ingrowns. Is a daily shave the better option? Or should I suck up the cost and go for professional laser?

ZombieFoof · 28/06/2024 12:57

Only recently discovered my first long, black chin hair - was horrified! After I plucked one I found 4 more and nearly had an attack of the vapours.

Am now resigned to my whiskery fate, thanks to PP for links to epi-spring - have just ordered.

Just one of the joys of menopause, amongst others...see username

justasking111 · 28/06/2024 13:01

If the hair is black there's a chance with electrolysis, if there's no pigmentation it just doesn't work.

I've given up and use the lipstick thing

Ruthietuthie · 28/06/2024 19:06

@justasking111, actually electrolysis will work on all colors of hair and skin - I have light skin and some white hairs (with a texture like wire) and it works for those, as well as the dark hairs. It's laser that needs a certain amount of pigment in the hair, and needs contrast between your hair color and skin tone.

Fraa · 28/06/2024 20:53

I dermaplane plus electrolysis.

Agree with PP it really depends on the operators how good the electrolysis is. I go to a local salon, the 3 therapists all use the same machine. One of them is useless - low voltage, doesn't keep it in place long enough, isn't accurate enough. Cynically, I wonder if she does it so poorly as she doesn't want it to work, as then I have to keep coming back. I do go back, but definitely not to her after experiencing her technique!

If I hadn't had lots of experience with other therapists, and just had her, I'd know no different and months down the line would be wondering why it wasn't working.

I have a lot of peach fuzz but have been having electrolysis for stronger hairs for a long time. Can someone explain, does dermaplaning make the peach fuzz stronger? Isn’t it just shaving by another name? I would like to get rid of the peach fuzz.

Yes it's just shaving by another name. It doesn't make the peach fuzz stronger. After dermaplaning I do feel the odd prickly hair, but that's useful as I know to point that one out next time I have electrolysis.

I do the dermaplaning every 10 days or so. A bit less if I've decided I've got enough prickly hairs to make an electrolysis session worth while (every few months), then I let everything grow so the electrolysist has enough length to work with.

Neolara · 29/06/2024 09:07

What I want to know is how I can have a smooth chin one day and then literally the next morning I spot a 1 cm long black hair trailing down in full glory. What happens overnight - miraclegrow?

Traceability · 29/06/2024 09:12

Get your DP to tweeze them 😂Mine loves doing it 😅

If you do it yourself what do you use? I don’t see how it doesn’t make the hairs stronger though!

Fraa · 29/06/2024 09:51

@EvangelistaSister I just buy little dermaplaning razors from Amazon. I've been doing it at last 7 years, they are not stronger.

The ends are all blunt when you shave so they may feel thicker, as the whispy ends have been cut off. But you aren't doing anything that stimulates blood flow to the roots (like plucking does) that would make them stronger.

Use a SAD lamp to illuminate the area. It's a game-changer.
