Best way to remove under chin hairs

Auburngal · 20/06/2024 21:28

Getting to that stage in my life where I get stray under chin hairs. Currently plucking them out

Don't want to spend a lot on the equipment/treatment

I use the Tweezerman Facial Hair Remover, it pulls the hairs out at the roots, a couple of minutes 3 times a week is enough.

MotherOfCatBoy · 21/06/2024 11:22

Interesting tips. Tried electrolysis when I was younger and it didn’t seem to make any difference - I’ve plucked ever since, once or twice a week. Might try an epilator. I have dark hair and olive skin so laser wouldn’t work.

yarnwitch · 21/06/2024 11:35

@Justwantwhatsbestformyfamily it's different to laser, it's where a needle the thickness of the hair is inserted into the hair follicle and the root is zapped with an electrical current. You have to catch the hair at the right stage of the hair growth cycle for it to be effective so it usually takes several sessions.

I use a scissor type spring that I run over my chin/lip and it gets most of them. Was only a couple of quid I'll try and find a link

I use this style of springy thing:

With some tweezing for the few I can't get with that and dermaplaning for the peach fuzz every so often too.

Ladyluckinred · 21/06/2024 12:08

I’ve had mine since my teens. I remember sunning it up abroad and my then boyfriend pointing out a lovely black hair under my chin - I was mortified. My Nan had the same (thanks Nan!!), we always opted for plucking. I’m in my early 30s now, I don’t even want to imagine how many will appear as I approach my 40’s. Each year, I’m noticing a few more 🥹.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about dermaplaning (break outs) so I’m a little scared of using. Although I love the sound of having a smooth, un-peach-fuzzed face.

Which epilator do you have please? Not used one since the monster that was named "epilady" days. Good lord that was a nasty beast to use on the legs 😂

It's a Remington Smooth and Silky corded one. Can't face it anywhere else though. 😬Really good for the chin though.

loropianalover · 21/06/2024 14:37

I get it waxed every month while getting my eyebrows done, I notice 5 or 6 hairs every 3ish weeks so it slots in with my monthly eyebrow tint nicely.

No idea why I have blonde eyebrows and black chin hair though!!!

missnevermind · 21/06/2024 14:37

I use the episprings. Have done for years. Quick flick over when you remember and the job is done. Only costs pennies too.

Currently sitting here stroking my bristly chin and contemplating my tweezers and bright light.
I need someone to swear to me they'll keep on top of this in the nursing home one day

Trust me - they really won’t…

I tried electrolysis many years ago & it was painful but just about bearable. Then that woman left the salon & the new one didn't just zap a hair once & move on; without warning me about her technique, she zapped each hair once & then, as I was relaxing from the tension, zapped the same hair again 'just to make sure'. I lasted one session with her & never went back.

I'm 65, so my time might be not too far away 😂

Notaflippinclue · 21/06/2024 15:57

Always asked the old girls on the ward if they wanted their whiskers sorting - they were so grateful

superplumb · 21/06/2024 17:08

Electrolysis is the only permanent. I've been going for a year was every two weeks now every 3. I have vd some stubborn areas. Top lip is sore but it's slowed down.
It's a fine needle that goes into the hair folicle and electricity is passed down killing the root

Clarinet1 · 21/06/2024 17:44

I go to a Benefit counter for eyebrows (shape and tint), chin and upper lip which I find works pretty well. However, I also have an electrical gadget (Philips) intended for styling male facial hair which I sometimes use for a nasty hair or two!

FyodorDForever · 21/06/2024 17:48

Definitely laser. I can’t believe I waited all these years, plucking daily. Game changer.

Meanwhile33 · 21/06/2024 17:52

If the hairs are dark & your skin is fair, laser is brilliant. You only need a few treatments, and then a top up maybe once a year for any new ones. It completely sorts them out.

Thanks for that wee shaver link. Ordered. Mine are a mix of wiry dark or white sods and very very fine but inch long wisps that I don't notice till I catch the light properly and realise I look like an old English sheepdog. Deeply horrifying.

I’m sorry. I shouldn’t laugh but that made me snort out loud 😂. Something about the OES ref 😂

I am similarly afflicted by a two-tone chin pelt 🙈

WhitstablePearl · 20/06/2024 21:57

Plucking is such a joy. That feeling as they exit. Ahhhhhhhhh <lights cigarette>

😂

Mrsredlipstick · 21/06/2024 18:49

I work in beauty so have tried it all. I like a x 10 mirror and tweezerman tweezers. Just don't do it at Sainsbury's. Even if there is a empty car park sone blighter will park next to you!

Washingupdone · 21/06/2024 18:58

Not about the wiry hairs but what do you do about light peach fuzz, do you shave or will it grow back thick and dark?

CheerfulBunny · 21/06/2024 19:08

@Washingupdone Yes, I was wondering the same. I have a great deal of 'downy fluff'* on my cheeks and under my chin. It's not really unsightly but I do wonder about demaplaning and whether my make up would go on more smoothly maybe but I'm not sure it's something I want to start..
