Confused about concealer

I'm trying to get to grips with make-up for the first time in my late 40s. I had a very helpful make up lesson at the beginning of the year. My lesson notes say to use the concealer in a triangle under inner corner of eye and on eye lid to hide discolouration.

Should my concealer be lighter than my skin tone or the same colour?

You'd think it should be the same colour if I'm trying to conceal things?
But am I supposed to be trying to use it to brighten the inner corners of my eyes?

The paler concealer seemed to be very obvious when applied, but the one I've got now (Nars), that matches my skin tone, blends in so well that it doesn't seem to make a difference?

I wear glasses that magnify the bit under my eyes and I have some baggy bits there too. So any recommendations for good products to use in that area would also be appreciated.

I've found videos on YouTube help me a lot and there are step by step tutorials. .Depending on how much coverage you need NARS have great ones but they are quite heavy duty. Kat Von Dee also have a great one.
One tip I would share is that at every stage on the building up coverage under the eyes process it helps to be gentle ( little taps) and also give it a minute .. so gently dab it on .. then go and do something else ( I will dry my hair) then gently dab the concealer in . The other product that helps me a lot to keep the concealer in place in the urban decay all nighter setting spray
also very useful to know difference between concealer and corrector .. again you tube is your friend for this
