Is this the elusive luxury version of a fjallraven kanken?

I've been after a replacement for my battered old fjallraven kanken for many years. I even had a thread on here about it.

I've found this https://wandererstravelco.uk/collections/backpacks/products/the-leogang-backpack

My only worry is that it might be heavy as it's leather

Anyone seen similar? The main selling point is the fully openable front

The Leogang backpack

Our very first time to Leogang felt like we’d just stepped into the storybook town from Hansel and Gretel. Scalloped rooftops, snow up past the windowsills and chimneys pouring with smoke, all gathered in the shadowed valley of some of Austria’s...

I'd just get another kanken. I think this one is fugly as!

longdistanceclaraclara · 17/06/2024 15:37

I don't like that at all.

stressedespresso · 17/06/2024 15:45

Looks like a bin bag!

KreedKafer · 17/06/2024 15:48

I wouldn't have thought it was particularly heavy - if it's soft leather, the leather's unlikely to be very thick.

However, I would bear in mind that (despite the ridiculous OTT marketing nonsense on their website, which made me roll my eyes) this bag is unlikely to have been designed with anything like the same robust construction as a Fjallraven. This brand is a fashion brand that uses the language of a travel brand to sell a vague idea of an 'adventurer' lifestyle, not an actual outdoor/travel brand, and I strongly doubt that their bags will be anything like as comfortable, balanced or long-lasting as a Kanken, especially if you carry heavy stuff in them every day.

I also think that, for a bag that costs of upwards of £200, they look a bit cheap in the pictures. I personally would just buy another Kanken.

Try Ecoalf

fancyfrogs · 17/06/2024 16:15

I wouldn't have described that as elusive luxury at all, it looks scruffy imo

GalileoHumpkins · 17/06/2024 16:25

That looks really badly made, the seams are all skew-whiff.

FayCarew · 17/06/2024 16:28

It's horrible.

Kittea · 17/06/2024 16:45

That's really ugly.

Go with the kanken and get a bright, happy colour! That one looks like it's been pulled from a swamp.

35degrees · 17/06/2024 16:48

Ew - thats horrible

Papyrophile · 17/06/2024 16:52

Sandqvist?

Skule · 17/06/2024 18:23

If you're looking for a more sophisticated take on a Kanken, I'd look at luggage brands like Horizn Studios or Tumi for the best combination of light weight and functionality

Isometimeswonder · 17/06/2024 18:40

I quite like it @crochetmonkey74 .
Would prefer a more cheerful colour tho.

YearsofYears · 17/06/2024 19:01

Fjallraven do other backpacks that are a bit more business like than kanken. I have the Fjallraven raven for work and I adore it :)

KatPurrson · 18/06/2024 18:52

@crochetmonkey74 I ordered something from that company last week when it was mentioned on your crossbody bag thread.

it came today and as others on this thread have guessed, the quality really doesn’t justify the price IMHO so it’s going back.

BlackSwan · 18/06/2024 19:02

Is it ugly on purpose?

crochetmonkey74 · 18/06/2024 19:33

I'm glad of this thread as Wanderers is mentioned a lot. I've not seen one irl so I'll not order. Still looking for my posh fjallraven though
