What flat sandals this year?

Looking for new flat sandals for my holiday next week. I love the dr marten sandals but wondering if I'm too late to jump on that bandwagon? Also concerned they may rip my delicate trotters to shreds. Any style recommendations for comfy flat sandals please? I wear mostly full length wide leg trousers or long dresses

There are masses of versions of the DM sandals about now. There are two sandals that keep on calling my name when I see them. The Clarks ones are beautiful leather.

@JamieFraserSporran I do like Clarks. Their sizing is all over at the minute though - just sent three pairs of loafers back which were massive. I wasn't sure if the dm style was going out now as I've waited so long to get any

DMs are timeless with the people who always liked them, if that makes sense? So whilst their mass popularity might wane a little they won't completely crash out of fashion. Buy them if you like them, don't if you don't.

Also, they are the most comfortable things ever. No breaking in required.

These are lovely, I tried them on at the weekend. I just can't afford them so they stayed in the shop. So comfortable and looked great. Clarks have lots of sandals on sale currently too. Just not these ones.

@ScrapeMyArse which ones do you have that didn't need breaking in? What's the sizing like? I'd need to order online and haven't got time to go back and forth with them. Thanks 😊

@TheFormidableMrsC I'm not sure I like the velcro fastening - they look a bit orthopaedic to me . They are on sale in one of the online catalogues though- like ambrose Wilson or something (can't remember what i googled earlier)

If I was going to buy sandals this year (not due to terrible weather!) - I like these -

I coveted DMs last year and finally ordered some. They fitted weird and were so clumpy and uncomfortable! I crept back to my saltwaters...

Try Hotter Tourist Ii. Definitely don't need wearing in. Leather is so soft.

Imambaldi · 18/06/2024 06:42

Depends on whether you want to do loads of walking and sightseeing or whether it will be beach/ pool/ short walk to shops and restaurant.

I have learned that anything with course edges or hard leather will rip my skin to shreds ( not fit for purpose).
You don’t want to spend any of your holiday “breaking in” footwear.

I now wear only Sketchers or Merrell sandals. Not high fashion but keep my feet cool while being able to walk for miles with no foot injuries and blisters.

I’ve just got some Milano Big Buckle which give that same oversized look to docs but (to my eye) have a bit more going on.
My other sandals I’m enjoying so far this “summer” are my teva slim in the tigers eye colour. They are way more low key than the Milanos and a good neutral/minimalist option.

BuntyCollocks · 18/06/2024 08:19

I love my birkenstock Arizona’s and my saltwater sandals - have just ordered saltwater sharks in black. Fisherman sandals are big this year, and I know my feet like salties

delilabell · 18/06/2024 09:32

I was going to say hotter tourist too. So comfy

MHamp · 18/06/2024 12:04

DM sandals are quite the statement, I love how they can add a lot of edge to pretty summer dresses. I bought a similar pair in Massimo Dutti 2 years ago and still wear them non stop. If you have a bit of an edgy/rock chic style go for them!

Justsewsew · 19/06/2024 17:31

@MHamp I actually went into our dying town this afternoon to try some on. Oh my god they are so heavy! They're a no from me 😊

I've been eyeing up the Camper Orugas or Sorel Kinetic ones but they're very pricey. Also chunky.
