Help! What shoes with this dress for a July wedding guest?

I’m getting myself confused. It’s so long since I’ve bought an outfit for a specific event! What would you wear? Colour, style, perhaps even a link! I’m 47, size 14/16 and can still rock heels of a good height so I think there’s options …

Nude heels

have you actually bought this dress ?

CapaciousHag · 16/06/2024 17:11

Nice frock.

Really it depends on your hair colour and skin tone. I wouldn’t generally suggest black shoes for a July event, but these would be lovely with black hair and a different coloured bag.

Gold, or silver, or rose gold would all work with that for a July wedding. I’d go silver sandals, with statement jewellery/earrings myself.

Gold Esskaa sandals

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2024 17:14

I have, why? @HateMyRubbishBoss

i did wonder about black. I’m Mediterranean coloured, can carry strong colours. Will have red lipstick probably if that gives a picture. Long dark hair and thinking of this hair clip :

I like the Zara ones too. That's quite a lady like look.

More black …

(Bit more up to date than the clumpy gold heels?) But yes, wonderfully ladylike!

Dress is gorgeous and extremely elegant , that bow at the front would not flatter me personally hence my question
Is it fixed? Can you tie it on the side if you wanted to?

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2024 19:24

Ah! The whole belt comes off - it’s actually a swing dress and it comes with the belt. It’s Jasper conran if that helps? I was worried you knew something bad about it!

Stunning dress and will look gorgeous with your colour. Personally I would go nudes or black, classic style heels. It is such a fabulous colour you really don't want the shoes detracting from it.

Enjoy!

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2024 21:39

That’s it - beautiful isn’t it!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/06/2024 21:44

It's a beautiful dress. I'd go with similar colour and heel height as it's been styled with. I don't think clumpy / clompy heels will look right with such an elegant dress.

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2024 21:52

I really don’t want flats though.

I have a dress that colour and wear gold with it

IPoopRainblows · 16/06/2024 22:01

Lovely dress, beautiful colour. I don’t think black works with strong colours.

I have a pair of green trousers in a similar colour and wear with gold heels.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/06/2024 22:02

If you're set on heels, then something like that is spot on. Or the classic, always available LK Bennett court. I think clumpy/ clompy block heels will detract from the elegance.

I had a look on the website. They haven't styled any of the dresses with heels and have gone for Audrey Hepburn style ballet flats, which looks so right. I think Esska are everything that was wrong with 1970s Top the Pops and aren't right with that dress.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 16/06/2024 22:02

Yes I was going to say gold as well. Pointed toe, kitten heel. With a hot pink bag.

Agree.

There's loads of possibilities on here - pink, gold, silver. The block heels are elegant too.

I had actually been looking at those jimmy choos too.,, love them but not sure about mules, lack of ankle support, a few drinks and a dance floor… although I’ll probably take some foldable ballet flats for later anyway which sounds like the right shoes to start with!

I want heels though… I like the Zara ones but they’re not leather and I’m not totally sold on black for the wedding… I’m fussy sorry!
