That’s what I wondered as I noticed that Zara got to use her own name.

It’s a ludicrous anachronism which no-one should go along with.

@MotherofPearl you can choose what name to display on your badge - I had to log in to my account to check, but there is a note to say if you wish to amend the name on your badge you have to contact the Enclosure office.

And right on cue the Carriage List comes out and Zara is listed as Mrs Mike Tindall!

I was wondering why Michael Middleton also seems to have some sort of yellow warning triangle badge as well 😆

So we can infer that Carole either isn't bothered about / sees it as correct etiquette being 'Mrs Michael' or someone else did all the paperwork for her.

I guess one day (hopefully soon) Ascot will see they have more Mrs Zaras than Mrs Michaels and will change the default name.

I'd have to see the badges themselves up close, but the different shapes/colours usually denote access to certain areas of the racecourse. It could also be a dietary thing - a quiet nod to the servers bringing out food as to whether someone is getting a different meal to everyone else. They like to be discreet about that sort of thing.

Ok I've seen some of the other guests with their badges now and whilst you can't zoom in enough to see what they say, my best guess is the triangle badge is an access thing. You'll note that there are different colour badges being worn by different people - that is because some are "day" badges (valid on one day only) and others are badges for the whole week - you can see on the close up picture of Zara on the Hello link that her badge says "Royal Household. Weekly" which means she is attending on multiple days. The other badges will be colour-coded each day so that the people working on the course know who is in the right place at the right time.

My best guess is that yellow was Wednesday's colour and the triangle badge may well be the Royal Box access badge - ladies tend to put their badges on their handbags (I do at other courses) as they don't always have a buttonhole (like the men) to attach it to, so they are less easy to spot. The name badges have pins on the back of them so are easily attached to your outfit.

I can imagine Zara, with the confidence of being UC, would say ‘fuck the archaic etiquette - stick my name on the badge’. Carole might want to be seen to do the right (old-fashioned) styling.

I agree that Mrs Husband Name needs to go. What a weird thing to still do.

The queen looks lovely in white or cream - really suits her.

I love Sarah Chatto’s style. She always looks trendy. Not a fan of her perpetual scrubbed face look, but 🤷‍♀️.

I like the hat but the decoration looks like someone has dropped a shower puff on her. 🧽

Sarah Chatto has found her style and sticks to it. She always looks good. I think this was the outfit she wore to H&M wedding.
