Do you use body lotions? Any to recommend?

I buy body lotion about once a year with the best intentions and then never end up using it, mainly due to laziness.
I noticed my skin has become very dry recently, especially on my legs so really need to try and make an effort. Do you use lotion or oils daily?
Anything you can recommend that will make me want to use it? I don’t mind spending a bit, infact I prefer to as a regular bottle of nivea just doesn’t appeal to me enough… Budget is £20 max, prefer things with good ingredients and no paraffin and silicones.
Thanks!!

I love body butters from The Body Shop. Also TK Maxx have a good selection.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 14/06/2024 06:25

This one by Biotherm is my favourite. It has a very light fresh lemony scent, big bottle and is absorbed really quickly. I dislike body lotions that take a lot of effort to rub in.

I also make up a body scrub that I use in the shower and it exfoliates and moisturises at the same time. Just mix together coconut oil and sugar and put it in a tub. I use about 5 parts sugar to one part coconut oil. You can adjust proportions to suit.

@PortiaWithNoBreaks I'm a recent convert to Biotherm, and absolutely love the Oil Therapy version.

It's a pricey bottle but you only need a couple of pumps for the whole body, so even with daily use it's lasted for 4 months and I still have a third of a bottle left.

I've never used such a good moisturiser. Easily absorbed and my skin feels amazing.

coconut oil, cheap, cheerful and no nasties.

suki1964 · 14/06/2024 09:06

I use bog standard Skin So Soft from Avon. Dry oil spray - stops the mozzie bites as well :)

PeachPairPlum · 14/06/2024 09:19

I just work through what I've been given - at the moment its a large bottle of body lotion from boots Soap and Glory range.
Seems good to me.

CeraVe moisturising lotion, or I use the Revolution Cereamides equivalent which isn’t animal tested.

Edited to add, reviews suggest it’s for the face, it’s a massive bottle and definitely more suited as a body lotion. It wouldn’t suit MY face, anyway!

Every day, twice a day! I'm basic though and like the Nutrogena unscented one which costs about £5 in Boots.

Aveeno blue tube

kdramaqueen · 14/06/2024 09:27

I have just ordered the Biotherm one recommended here, as the 400ml Garnier 7 day intensive one I like is no longer available. The one star Amazon reviews - complaints that it was old stock/fake - put me off as I have encountered sellers of fake products before on Amazon. A quick google search and I was able to get it cheaper than Amazon on my-origines.com and that included postage from France.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 14/06/2024 09:28

Neutrogena hydro boost in blue pump bottle.

I also use all manner of expensive unguents, but this is the best and ridiculously cheap.

I do think basic is best when it comes to this stuff! You need ceramides and perhaps hyaluronic acid. Fragrance etc aren’t necessary. My legs got much happier when I decided lotion was doing a job of moisturising, not indulgent pampering.

Neutrogena Deep Moisture for day to day or Naturium Bio-Lipid for special occasions 😊

Basic is best sometimes!

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps and the Necessaire Body lotion.
the Kiehl's is a touch more creamy because it has Shea butter in it. The Necessaire is “clean”, but they’re both good for sensitive skin.

Ooooh yes I forgot about Kiehls! Love that one as a treat 😍

Vaseline Intensive Care is good.

WeRateSquirrels · 14/06/2024 11:23

This is my current favourite - rich but not too thick, sinks in quickly, only need a small amount.

I also have the purple Sol de Janerio which smells amazing but is too thick (much thicker than the original). I find the Body Shop butters unpleasantly thick too, so I think I need to start avoiding anything marketed as a 'butter'.

I never used to be in to them but have recently discovered them.... I use once or twice a week in the evening after a batg.
Recommend the bum bum cream by sol de Janeiro, also ameliorate is very good.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/06/2024 11:51

Not the basic Nivea but their Coconut & Monoi oil is good. Blue pump action bottle. 400ml. Around £7.

GigiAnnna · 14/06/2024 12:08

Lidl cocoa butter is cheap, moisturising and smells nice. Now and again as a treat to myself I buy Bum Bum cream for the scent but I haven't found it as moisturising as lots of other cheaper products. I also like Neutrogena Deep Moisture.

MotherWol · 14/06/2024 13:18

I prefer body oil, creams and lotions often seem to sit on my skin and leave it feeling a bit filmy. Sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, any natural based oil works fine - I'm currently really enjoying this one Nala's Baby - smells great and is cheap as chips. Usually apply after an evening shower a couple of times a week.
