I'm frumpy and need help

Hello all

I am 39 , soon be 40. I need help. My autistic daughter thinks I'm a mess and it hurts my feelings. Let me explain...

I have sebaceous dermatitis. I have a lot of stress but I try to control it.

I have mod length hair that's just... there. A lot of grays but I am happy to not dye my hair. I have never been able to style it.

My nake up is minimal and again I'm happy with that but it looks cakey, I have to use it as my skin is so bad 👎. I need ideas for good but still affordable brands . Skincare to please.

My clothes... I bloat a lot, have 2 stone to lose but belly , I'm an apple shape. 5 ft 7 and 13 stone. I wear black leggings, with a dress , floral , with a cardigan . Or a skirt and top and cardi which is OK. But I need a better style. Something simple and easy. I have never found jeans comfortable.

Shoes... I have a pair of ankle boots and a pair of pink trainers.... that's about it.

I feel so old , frumpy and just... not great. My diet needs work. I snack all day. Stress.

Hi I’m so sorry you’re feeling like that, what brands are you using now? I think No 7 is good affordable skincare and make up range. Would you go to a make up counter and get some advice?
Getting an eyebrow shape and your nails done might be a good place to start to make you feel better, if you feel better in yourself you’ll feel less frumpy and start to look at clothes differently. Xx

I am feeling quite low now days. Yes I can look at the no7 range. Haven't been in boots for a while. I'm just worn down by my daughter and her opinions, been happening for a while.

I used to be so into my health and things and I've lost so much of myself. Makes me sad to think about.

There are lots of youtube tutorials to dress different shapes. They give you a general idea of which kind of trousers/ skirts, tops fit your shape. Mainly not to use clothing that accentuates the "bad" areas, but that draws the eye towards the "good" ones, keeping a balanced appearance.
Then you can compare your wardrobe to the guidance and check if a particular piece of clothing just cuts you on the wrong height. You will be surprised how much an outfit can change by choosing a slightly longer or shorter top, adding a belt... You may not need new clothes, but to pair them differently.
Also, the tacking in though I never got the hand of this one! Still learning.
Watch a few here and there.

Also, make up, I have watched a few, because what used to work on my younger face does no longer. In genetal, they will say to try to draw the lines of the face upwards. Tiny differences, but they do make an impact.

The most important, though, is to make time to eat healthy, take some fresh air and sleep well. I am also working on this one!

Realising you are unhappy about yourself is half way to fixing it. I’d make a plan. Can you get to somewhere like John Lewis who have free personal shoppers to pick out clothes? You don’t have to buy them there but you’d get some ideas. The food one is difficult as I have problems trying to stop snacking but I am trying to stick to non UPF foods so at least what I eat is healthy. What about going to a make-up counter to get a free make up trial? You might be recommended some products that work better for you.

Good ideas. Thank you. I've never been to a make up counter or anything like that. Could be just what I need now.

How old is your daughter? I have an 18 year old and everything I do, say, wear is an embarrassment to her, if you’re feeling low anyway her opinions will be dragging you lower once your feeling better in yourself you’ll be able to ignore ❤️
