have you found a barrel legged trouser that looks good? I love the look of barrel legged trousers on other people, but they all seem to look ridiculous on me. I think I might just have to give up and accept I'm just too short (5ft 1) to pull them off, too much fabric for a small frame and make my legs look even shorter. If not barrel legged, what style are you liking atm?

I love tapered trousers, I’m five feet one.

TheHullabaloo · 11/06/2024 21:17

Yes, tapered are my go to and seem to be what fits best, although have to be careful as sometimes the waist can be a little too high for the shorter body.

I only wear petite trousers, not short, actual petite so every thing is in the right place.

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/06/2024 21:22

Have you tried M&S ? I'm 5ft 2 and usually find their trousers a good length - maybe try the regular and short ones for comparison though.

Which petite brands do you like?

Yes, I have a few different styles from there, haven't seen any barrel legged though, have you spotted any? I know the recent Sienna Miller range had them, but they sold out pretty quick, not sure if they did short length, I'll go have a nosey.

I’m 5”1 and mostly wear leggings as I find most other shapes swamp me or don’t fit right. I found Next do some petite ranges and have managed to buy a skirt I like from them, but haven’t tried trousers

YorkNew · 11/06/2024 21:34

Next and M&S.

Does anyone follow an insta account dedicated to fashion for us shorties you'd recommend?

I'm 5'3"
And feel I look good in barrel leg. They come in a little at the bottom so like a tapered jean, I find them more flattering on me than a wide leg as I just look too wide all over in those.

I don't know if they still do them but I got some from whistles

TheHullabaloo · 11/06/2024 21:57

Next and M&S never quite hit the mark style wise for what I'm looking for, I'm really looking for a petite version of these -

I have seen whistles do some online, sadly not stocked in my local shop, interesting you say they fit well, I might give them a go!

I have whistles petite barrel leg jeans and can really recommend. They do come up a bit small on the waist though. I have gone to a 29’ waist whereas I’m normally a 28’

DreadPirateRobots · 11/06/2024 22:06

I just wear the barrel legs. I have Cos and Kin ones and I think they look good on me.

Two recommendations have convinced me, I'm going to order and give them a try, thanks for the sizing tip too, my waist has disappeared somewhat of late so I'll definitely size up.

I've always found Cos sizing gigantic, do you get yours shortened?

Bother, whistles barrel legged jeans all sold out apart from in white, I'm not a white trouser fan, the search continues!

Nope. The ones I have are short enough not to need it. I generally get full length trousers shortened tho (am 5'2").

Footnoteintime · 11/06/2024 22:22

I’m 5’ and the only brands that don’t swamp me are Levi 27” length and 28” waist and recently M&S short length size 8. Cos, kin, which I love all swamp me in length and size . I’ve also had some success with Uniqlo. I’ve not found any barrel legs that I look good in. They emphasise my smallness but not in a flattering way sadly. I love them though and hope you find some you like

Highlandflapped · 11/06/2024 22:26

Turn ups are my friend.

They might not work on the style you’ve posted but for barrel leg jeans it’s great.

if you find the perfect trouser at the wrong length, get a recommendation for a local seamstress and get them altered. If its the over all fit, that will obviously be trickier.

AmberPig · 11/06/2024 22:30

I've just bought some M&S slim barrel leg jeans in a short length from Vinted, which I'm pleased with. I can't see them on the M&S website currently, but might be worth a trawl if you don't mind second hand?

I'll have a look around on vinted and ebay, thanks

Hullabaloo, I have the white whistles jeans (& again, I'm not normally a fan of white jeans) but they are surprisingly flattering as they are slim over the hips and not voluminous over the legs. Might be worth trying. I'm 5'3'' if that helps & they finish just about my ankle bone.

Fraaahnces · 12/06/2024 01:48

I feel you. I’m 5ft. I think it also comes down to your own proportions/body type, ie, I have disproportionately short arms and torso. My hip bones are less than 1 inch from my hip bones. I look like a kid’s art product animal made from potatoes on bamboo skewers. Blocky. At my thinnest, my body type most resembles Pink’s - which I have only just discovered. I am going to look at her style and pick and choose outfits for myself inspired by the shapes she wears. (Because she has the advantage of stylists and money).

D20 · 12/06/2024 07:06

I’ve got Robyn barrel jeans from White Stuff and they’re already pretty short. I also got some much derided horseshoe jeans that I’m loving too.

I’ve just bought some regular length Alexa trousers (twill) from Lucy & Yak (eBay seconds) that are more voluminous but still with that heavy tapered shape that I wear turned up. Size down as these are quite generous.
