Wedding - I don't want to wear a dress

jeaux90 · 10/06/2024 19:12

Not that I don't, it's just I absolutely hate short sleeves, and all these floaty sleeves around just remind of cruise ship dresses.

Can't find a long sleeve dress I like.

Is it ok to wear a nice suit? Something fun?

Or are suits for women at weddings not the done thing?

I'm a big jumpsuit fan. I don't like dresses much either!

needhelpwiththisplease · 10/06/2024 19:15

In the wedding party, you can pretty much wear whatever you like so long as it's not white

MissKittyFantastico84 · 10/06/2024 19:16

Check out Aligne for beautiful, wedding appropriate feminine tailoring! They have some lovely suiting...

In the wedding party, you can pretty much wear whatever you like in whatever colour you like - even white. No one is going to mistake you for the bride.

Precipice · 10/06/2024 20:09

Of course you can wear a suit!

No woman has to wear a dress anywhere.

What sort of thing are you looking for? Would you like something like this

with the matching jacket? Or are you a jumpsuit lover?

LizzieBennett73 · 10/06/2024 20:26

Kate Barton is good for plain simple dresses - I wore one to a wedding with a really nice chunky necklace and bright coloured clutch with matching shoes. Worn it loads since too.

I love this

But I have been told on here that I have no taste!

LoobyDoop2 · 10/06/2024 20:35

I was an usher once and wore a silver coloured silk trouser suit. It worked really well.

Defiantlynot41 · 10/06/2024 20:36

The Fold is great for tailoring, dresses, suits and separates, a few examples attached

There's loads of options here- including 3 piece suits and shorts suits.

Max Mara suits

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/06/2024 21:10

I wore trousers as a bride! Wear what you feel comfortable in. Some of the wide trousers now are gorgeous.

jeaux90 · 10/06/2024 21:54

Loving some of the suits thanks! @sprigatito I love it too, would go for that velvet one for a autumn or winter wedding. Definitely not a jumpsuit fan.

I could definitely go for a turquoise, coral, bright pink linen suit! With trousers though, I have knees like bowling balls Grin

How about a skirt and blouse/top? I was struggling with sedding wear as I find the current trend for floral midi dresses and flutter or puff sleeves really frumpy.

My friend recommended a statement skirt and a sleek fitted top instead and it really works plus you get more wear out of the items as you can dress either compenent down.

jeaux90 · 11/06/2024 19:48

@Ginmonkeyagain well actually I have a gorgeous Missoni skirt you just reminded me I had!

I'm going to have to Google what "in the wedding party" means. I've only ever heard it in reference to weddings in the USA and have always assumed it meant the best man and bridesmaids, but it can't mean that because if OP were a bridesmaid the bride would be likely be deciding her outfit, or at least telling her what colour to wear.

As you are a Missoni fan this is about as far away from a floaty dress possible, yet still appropriate for a wedding (or actually a cruise!)
