Dermablend alternative?

Nchanged89 · 10/06/2024 18:30

Hi I'm looking to cover a scar, dermablend was the brand that I thought would be the answer but it seems it has been discontinued?
Does anyone have any alternative suggestions?
Thanks

Any suggestions at all?

I'd like to know a bit about camouflage type make-up as well. I know my dermatologist did make a recommendation a while ago, and I wrote it down - I'll try and dig it out.

I do hope that someone can answer your question here though.

I can't believe Dermablend has been discontinued! That has always been the standard recommendation for scars and other marks, including by the NHS.

AutumnCrow · 21/06/2024 08:38

I'm still looking for that recommendation ... I know it's on a piece of paper somewhere in my heaps of 'hospital stuff'!

I'm also guilty of putting things in safe places and never finding them again!

Veil is supposed to be good. However I have a big, purply scar and the best coverage for that is a colour neutraliser (as it happens, MAC Russian Red is the best opposite tone) then EL Double Wear. And as its on my arm, then both arms get a brush with a slightly sparkly body bronzer which detracts further from it

AutumnCrow · 22/06/2024 15:27

Thanks, @CMOTDibbler - I'll have a google of these.

You can still buy some colours on notino online. I'm guessing old stock if it was discontinued in 2022/3. Might be worth a try.

marmiteandminticecream · 23/06/2024 09:33

you can get it on ebay

Oh you use lipstick on it then the foundation?

Yes, its like using a green colour corrector on redness. Balancing the colour makes it a much better coverage than just using concealer

I've used colour corrector before but not lipstick, good idea if it balances it for you though. The scar I'm trying to cover is more faded. How does the estee lauder hold up ? I might get away with a concealer rather than foundation as it's a smallish scar. But worried about colour matching to my skin.

Where is the scar? If small, and on a leg or arm you might be best using the Sally Hansen airbrush legs (you'd need to put it on both legs/arms obv) which won't cover it totally, but blurs things out nicely and it is totally unshiftable. The trouble with just using concealer as even a really good match colour wise will show up as a lack of variation - so why you need to wear foundation with concealer on your face, or a wider colour elsewhere like a shimmer bronzer

It's around my areola, I had an uplift and got a slight infection in one breast. That's why I thought concealer wand type thing so I can cover a small area quite neatly.

@Nchanged89 I have been using the Vichy Derma colour corrector in yellow for years and cannot believe it’s been discontinued. I am yet to find anything better but having to start the hunt after just finishing my last pot. I recently sent for Derma Color Camouflage Creme which arrived and seems good although not exactly what I was expecting (looked more yellow online and is actually verging towards green). The consistency is good and it’s not as green / harsh as some of the other correctors I have tried. I have only tested it over makeup and it’s the best I’ve tried so far but will give a better go tomorrow morning. I use it for around my eyes to mask purple and red and broken veins around nose / cheeks. Reporting back! The colour I went for is D1 1/2 and I got it from Backstage Shop who sent it super quickly x.

Use Dermavate Ointment to reduce it's appearance so you don't need to cover it?
