Dh has very generously offered to buy me a new pair of Louis Vuitton sandals for the summer, I am stuck between these uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/bom-dia-flat-comfort-mules-nvprod4940046v/1ACHYI

And these uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/bom-dia-flat-comfort-mules-nvprod4330228v/1ABVNF

I already have a pair in this style in the classic brown colour and they're are unbelievably comfortable, Stuck between the two, help! X

I'm sure I saw them being sold by the looky looky men in Tenerife Grin

Hi op, in the vibe of style and beauty which is generally quite positive, I would say have you seen this colour

uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/bom-dia-flat-comfort-mules-nvprod4940114v/1ACKIS

It's similar to the pale but a bit less 'logo' so more like the black pair and I think lighter sandals would be better. Like a pp I sometimes find heavy black sandals to look a bit off.

Yes I agree with this. If you've already got dark brown then these would give you a better range of outfits.

katebushh · 09/06/2024 10:00

Both are horrible and prices are fucking insane.

Those are the best of the 3. They still have the logo but it's more discreet.

This isn't directed at the OP personally - her gift, her choice. None of my business really.

I sometimes wonder if I became notably wealthy, say through a lottery win or some other fantastical notion, and money were no object, would I get used to spending £800 on a pair of sandals?

I don't know if I would. I think the nopeness of that is hardwired in.

How do others feel?

I reckon that if I won the Euromillions and 800 quid was not significantly more to me than 50 quid (my normal sandal budget now) then I could see myself buying the black or beige ones if they're as comfy as the OP says. They look like a reasonably attractive and practical choice for everyday wear.

I could definitely see myself buying the Hermes Santorinis for parties, although they look fiendishly uncomfortable.

Redlarge · 09/06/2024 10:26

Not worth the money and if I saw anyone wearing either pair I'd automatically think they have just returned from a week's all inclusive in Turkey.

What stops me buying the Santorini or the Encens isn't so much the price but the fact I rarely wear open toed sandals.

I've got the Dune looky likeys of Hermès Oran ( aside, how did Dune get away with that?)
but they don't get worn very often. It never feels sufficiently warm long enough to wear them. Although I suppose either the Santorini or the Encens are so beautiful, so classic and hopefully so well made that if I bought a pair they'd last to my dying day.

Hermès Encens

Teddleshon · 09/06/2024 10:55

Buy Hermes sandals instead - the logos on those are horrid.

MummyJ12 · 09/06/2024 10:57

Hermes sandals are really uncomfortable though. (IME anyway!)

Isabelle70 · 09/06/2024 11:07

I now like the ones @OneFrenchEgg has posted. They are in my wish list I don't need them and have a handbag on my radar...

Springwatch123 · 09/06/2024 11:14

Slightly gawped at the price. I’d spend £100 on a pair and the rest on clothes, theatre tickets etc.

Nope, not me. My most expensive shoes were £90, and I’d usually spend around £50 normally. I probably could double that to get more quality shoes, but £800 would be a tad too much.

Me too! 😂

hastalav · 09/06/2024 11:44

The price is irrelevant if you can afford them. Sadly I don't like any of them, since they don't look all that "nice" to me.

On the subject of spending a fortune on shoes and bags etc. I suppose I wouldn't worry if I were a wealthy lass. However I always worry that if I did have the loot and paid 1k upwards for a pair of sandals that they were made in a factory in China anyway and I was ripped off because "labels".

Just the cynic in me.

SiobhanSharpe · 09/06/2024 11:49

Fugly. The Hermès sandals a couple of posts lower down are much more stylish and flattering to the feet.

SD1978 · 09/06/2024 11:52

I don't love either colour. The black, would only work with evening clothes, dresses (in my mind) and thr pale ones are just a bit too pale. Are there any other brands you've looked at, or do you have your heart set on these? I'd probably go the lighter pair as probably a bit more versatile

Idontjetwashthefucker · 09/06/2024 11:54

They don't look very hard wearing, no way would I spend £800 on those, even if I was rolling in cash. I'd rather have a decent leather pair that I'd get a few years wear from, sans logos, than something that most people would think were knock offs from the market

CrushingOnRubies · 09/06/2024 11:57

The black ones

As PPs have said they look less obviously LV

Also they won't looks as dirty/grubby as quickly

RuthW · 09/06/2024 12:06

MarthaDunstable · 08/06/2024 23:19

Leaving the money aside with some difficulty.

I personally would go for the black because I like the subtler embossed logo over the more in-your-face effect of the white ones. But that's my personal taste - which is meaningless when it comes to your choice.

This.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 09/06/2024 12:14

I've got to be honest if I saw someone wearing those white ones I would assume they are cheap knockoffs

The black are more subtle

But tbh they look like Birkenstocks to me so I'd save myself £700 and just get those instead

According to information online Louis Vuitton bags and shoes are made in France, Spain, Italy and the United States.

Hermès sandals are made in Italy or Greece.

Chillilounger · 09/06/2024 12:37

Neither are my taste- I don't like things with Logos (my anti advertising streak coming through!) but the important thing is that you like them. Which would you get more wear out of? Depends where in the world you are. In the UK you will probably only get a few weeks worth of wear this summer so maybe go light? Make the most of it?

CertainUncertain · 09/06/2024 12:42

Verite1 · 09/06/2024 03:10

Those are gorgeous sandals.

And that principle is exactly why my favourite handbag brand is bottega veneta (Intrecciato weave in particular). No branding at all. Those that know will recognise the weave, but if not, they are still beautiful bags.

If you are choosing between the LV, I'd go with the black. In this instance, I agree with @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle and @Verite1, the Hermes are much nicer and not plastered with Logos. I actually have the Hermes Extras and they're extremely comfortable.

I often wonder this. The "there are so many better uses for that type of money" is quite a difficult mindset to get away from. I think I could spend a lot on sandals if they were exactly what I wanted in terms of comfort and purpose. Spending on footwear matters more as I've got older. But, I don't think, I'd buy such conspicuous consumption items which is what a lot of that price is for.
