DH and I are invited to a 60th birthday at a golf club. No dress code, but I 'assume' the club will be fairly smart. I'm mid 40's and used to be an hourglass shape. For various reasons I'm now a size 16/18 and feel nothing suits. I WFH and never go out in the evenings now. What would you recommend on a larger hourglass shape?

Budget?

General preferences?

CJ0374 · 09/06/2024 10:03

Budget up to £200, but preferably less
Generally like wear green or red, no pink or purple
I used to wear pencil skirts/trousers and V necks suit best

I’m feeling a degree of sadness at your lack of evenings out …

I don’t think I’d recommend any specific thing to fit a particular body shape - I’d be guided by the person’s individual style and preferences. Whether they’re ’fashion forward’ or want to blend in; whether they want something noticeably dressy or something they can wear often in day to day life. That sort of thing …

No sadness at all! When I worked in an office, I was out in the evenings much more. I moved house which we've spent 2yrs renovating and lived in a caravan in the garden- with very limited clothing space. I now WFH and don't go out after work anymore. Not that these details are relevant to my question, but certainly no sadness!

You can't beat a jumpsuit.

Edited

Agree re recommendations based on body type.

On a budget of £200 if it were me , I'd look at dresses on sites like Palava, Batsheva, Sister Jane, possibly Anthropologie or Nobody's Child but beyond that, not enough information about what the OP might like. Your questions are the ones that need answers.

Definitely not a jumpsuit.

I’ve just been looking at

Hill House Home

which probably fits loosely into @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle‘s list. Lots of very pretty dresses in a relatively wide range of sizes at around the OP’s budget.

@CapaciousHag @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Thank you. Some brands I've never heard off- off to look them up 😀

I like Hill House.

Also similar although I've no experience of these in real life. The prices on the Museums Collection look to good to be true.

I filtered for Size 18 on Gather & See, which stocks a variety of ‘nice’ frock brands. Results not wildly exciting but maybe worth a browse:
