You're mid 40s and a cheapskate. Where's your foundation from?

Self confessed cheapskate here. Never pay more than a tenner for make up. Current foundation is Revlon Colorstay that I buy off Amazon or ebay for around 8 quid however I'm finding its mattness a bit ageing for my skin now.
Looking for recommendations of 'drugstore' (as they say in the US) foundations I can get off ebay or Amazon that have some staying power and don't do that weird flakey thing around the nose area. Is Revolution stuff any good?

M Asam Magic Finish.Best I’ve ever used. £25 for 30ml but it’s a mousse and you don’t need much at all so it lasts ages

Arctangent · 13/09/2024 00:57

I use Yves Saint Laurent. I'd get it second hand from Vinted rather than pay full price to save money.

Otherwise I wouldn't wear foundation and stick to Dr Jart.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 13/09/2024 06:47

L'Oréal True Match

Babbadoobabbadock · 13/09/2024 06:49

Primark, the Aldi dupes are good too

Sgtmajormummy · 13/09/2024 06:56

Garnier BB Cream here too.
I’m a cheapskate who also begrudges time spent on makeup so if it does several jobs at once I’m on it!

Phoera off Amazon. Less than a tenner, brilliant stuff and a little goes a long way. Read the reviews

I use this too but add Glossier future dew over the top. The coverage is amazing.

LoudSnoringDog · 13/09/2024 07:09

Garnier BB cream. Should be £10 but Superdrug always have it at half price.

I tried to go back to a "normal" foundation but it made my face feel really cloggy

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 13/09/2024 11:28

Rimmel, the one with the SPF Match Perfection

Monkey1z · 13/09/2024 16:03

I’m a cheapskate too but I hate buying multiples that look terrible and haunt my cabinets for years, so I invested in this custom mixed product Foundation drops customised based on a photo of your skin. They will remix for free if you are not happy with it if I recall correctly and you can choose the finish. I don’t wear it everyday so I can’t how long it will last but I’ve had it over a year now. Sometimes I add to moisturiser and sometimes use direct.

Ariela · 13/09/2024 16:33

I'm more of a cheapskate than you as I don't actually ever wear make up now. (Never wore foundation when I did because I can't stand the feel of it anyway)

Maybelline Perfector 4in1 glow for summer, really light and gives a lovely glow to the skin

for winter , No7 Protect and Perfect is my go to and as others have said, use the offers to bring the price down. Getting colour matched at the No7 counter got my perfect shade and it can also steer you to the right lipstick shade for skin tone and it was bang on the money!

Seconded...I am currently using this and really like it

StickyStones · 13/09/2024 16:57

Another for L'Oréal True match. So many shades, it's brilliant. I wear two different shades, a darker one in the summer months and both are a perfect match for me. I love that it's not too pricey that I can justify two shades,

I used to wear expensive make up (Dior, Chanel, Mac, bobbi brown) and would wear one shade all year round but add bronzer in the summer. I don't have to bother with that now, it's fab

troppibambini6 · 13/09/2024 17:12

Rimmel. I swapped from Chanel after I ran out and used some of dds. I got so many comments about my skin I bought some for myself and never went back.

patchworkbear · 13/09/2024 17:40

Maxx Factor. Boots 3 for 2

Purpleavocado · 13/09/2024 18:12

I am liking maybelline skin tint set with the rimmel powder in the red case. I was told my makeup was flawless last week - I'm 53.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 13/09/2024 18:24

Yup, Boots No7 here too, either the CV or BBC cream, sometimes with a bit of their highlighter mixed in - makes my 49 year old skin bright and even. Friends comment on how refreshed my skin looks which is a bloody revelation.

Another vote for Elf, I recently discovered their soft glam foundation and love it. I was using Estee Lauder Double Wear, but so far I'm liking the Elf one just as much.

I've wanted to try that foundation since reading this article

SisterAgatha · 13/09/2024 19:44

I’m rimmel all the way. Some of these brands sound well above me in terms of price. Reading these answers I see that I am truly a cheap skate 🤣

(I do pay proper money for blush, concealer, eye shadow and lipstick though, as I use them less)

SisterAgatha · 13/09/2024 19:45

Also in true cheap-skatedly-ness, I’d look at prices per ml for a proper comparison.

SisterAgatha · 13/09/2024 19:52

Ok so I just did look up some max factor / maybelline / L’Oréal as to me, these are higher end than the rimmel which has been my go to brand since teen years.

and I’m shook. This thread is life changing. Some of those brands are cheaper per ml than rimmel. I can’t believe this! I might branch out now I know that!!!

Retiredearly61 · 14/09/2024 09:03

@SisterAgatha no point it being cheaper per ml if you need more each application to get the coverage. That’s why I use the Phoera, cheap per ml and also the tiniest amount does my whole face so it lasts ages.

I bought it after reading a similar article, it has been getting a lot of attention! I definitely find it gives a very subtle glow as mentioned in the article, nothing over the top though.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/06/2024 10:08

I think a good concealer is the thing I need more than foundation in my 40s.But if it's drugstore foundation you're after I would go for Bourjois Healthy Mix.

Just came here to say I’m looking for good concealer! Not too thick and doesn’t sink into lines…?

Now that is something hadn’t considered. I say all this and I just know I’ll still buy rimmel till the day I die because I know what I’m getting 🤣

My DP once treated me to a MAC one and I hated it. It was like paste about a week after opening.
