Wavy /curly fringe - does it work?

I keep thinking about getting a fringe to hide my (five)head but my hair goes curly when it’s short and I’m just not sure curly fringes work without a lot of effort.

Does anyone with curly/wavy hair and have a fringe that can basically work with air-dry and a drop of leave-in conditioner?

Mine stuck up in all sorts of weird directions. I'm embracing the fivehead.

Bibbetybobbity · 06/06/2024 22:34

Oh that’s a no from me. I’d look like spuggy from byker grove.

I don't think it works. My daughter has wavy curly hair and wanted a fringe. The hairdresser said it was a very bad idea!

Goldenthigh · 06/06/2024 22:35

No, absolutely not. My hair has to be a certain length or it sticks straight up.
Embrace your forehead!

My sister had one (curly hair) and she had to straighten it every day

halfpasteleven · 06/06/2024 22:40

What's a five head?!

I have wavy hair and a fringe but it needs styling every morning... either I wash it and blow dry it or else I run the straightener over it...

WhamFantastic · 06/06/2024 22:40

I too long for a fringe to hide my lined forehead. However I'm sure my wavy hair would look terrible and stick up weirdly and I don't have the lifestyle or inclination to blow dry my hair every day.
Will read replies with interest to see if anyone has a solution!

I have a friend with more or less ringlets.

Her fringe is about four mini ringlets 😬

Don’t do it!

whattodo87 · 06/06/2024 22:42

I have a curly fringe and I think it's looks good :-)

A hairdresser gave me a side fringe as a surprise once 🙄. It hit just below my eyes. I have wavy hair. It curled into a right angle or stuck straight out like a horn.

Makes people look like a poodle to me!

My friend has curly hair and she has a very long fringe and has a center parting. She wears her hair straight or curly and the long fringe/bangs look fantastic.

GreekVases · 06/06/2024 22:46

I know someone with very long ringlets, and her fringe is a series of mini-ringlets. She just about carries off a sort of Pre-Raphaelite thing.

A fivehead is a big forehead.

Whingebob · 06/06/2024 22:48

I've cut myself a fringe or side bangs a few times. Air drying.

Sometimes it's looked good, sometimes like a spaniel, or King Charles II

With curly hair, it was hit or miss. If it dried in a stupid shape, it was tucked back. If your hair is more wavy, you'll probably be fine.

If you do want one, go to a professional......

I have a very long one (below cheekbone length) which works with my shoulder length wavy hair but I tried a conventional short one once when my hair overall was just below shoulder length and it was a disaster. I could blow dry it over a round brush to get it straight or straighten it but then it looked wrong with wavy hair. Left to its own devices, or if I got caught in rain or even just warm humid weather it would turn i to little sticky out random curls and look a total mess. I got away with it with a pixie cut when I blow dried it all smooth every day and hoped for dry weather but not when longer than that.

Thanks @PickAChew

Curly hair, had a fringe once, it looked bloody awful. Took 3 months to look passable and 6 months before I loved my hair again. Proceed with extreme caution

Miriad · 06/06/2024 22:59

I have a curly fringe, inspired by the actress in Russian Doll. It looks great! I just dampen it and let it curl its own way.

I had a fringe cut in to my curly hair- I found out that I have a natural cow's lick and ended up straightening the front sections each day until it grew out.

GettingStuffed · 07/06/2024 00:11

I've tried to have a fringe but my hair just barrel rolls and it looks like I have a curler stuck in it

IMBCRound2 · 09/06/2024 22:34

Thanks all ! Think I shall just embrace the lines and the great expanse of head 😂

this would be the idea! that’s basically my hair type …. I wish hair would let you have a go and grow back the next day
