Fjallraven backpack

Teen DD wants one of these and they cost a fortune! I don't mind buying one but would really prefer to get one on offer. What are the chances of this?! We're in EU so not the UK prices. Anyone know if they're ever on sale at certain times of the year or if there's a different shop/site to get them?

Maybe put your foot down and tell her she doesn't have to have one just because all the other kids are Hmm

My kids have always got their bags cheap online or from the market. Never did them harm.

Edited

She doesn't want to 'put her foot down'. That's not what she is asking. Confused

You can get shoulder pads for kankens if you want them.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 06/06/2024 19:48

So many helpful replies, thank you all!

@CowboyJoanna my DD isn't one to follow the crowd, she doesn't have many friends and nobody we know has one of these bags. She just saw them online and has fallen in love with them! She has been an absolute dote from the day she was born, is a pleasure to be around and never demands anything. If I had the money and the means, I'd buy her the stars from the sky. We'll settle for a fjallraven backpack 😛

@Zoflorabore she is not a girly girl so owns nothing pink since she started picking her own clothes!! otherwise I'd be PMing you straight away! But thank you. She wants the navy or dark grey I think.

I don't get the hype at all. Had one bought for me as a gift by my old work when I left (which was very kind) but I hated it. The material was so stiff and it looked really worn after just a few months. The straps are just webbing and are really uncomfortable if you're carrying a decent load of stuff around. Zips are really stiff and awkward as well. So confused why people love them so much! But I'm a 30-something, I know that for teens it's more about style over comfort!

They are worth the price tag. Ours are 5 ish years old now and still going strong.

Ditto. DD got hers when she was in year 12 at school. It saw her through A levels and her degree and is still going strong. She uses it for travelling and takes it to work every day. They really are worth the money.

Agree with everyone saying they are worth the price tag. Mine is still going strong after 14 years of daily use, holidays etc etc My daughter has the laptop version for school which has the padded straps and is probably a bit more comfortable if you’re carrying schoolbooks etc daily as they weigh a ton, but I use the original with my laptop pretty regularly and love it still!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/06/2024 09:36

I might see if there's an actual shop that stocks them so that DD can see them in person and try on etc. lots of comments about the straps and she'll be carrying lots of school books (although I know there are padded straps that we can also get)

Schu had them last week. Loads of shops used to have them like UO and John Lewis when they were at the peak of fashion. The straps are absolutely fine in my opinion. My dd takes her laptop in hers.

Princessfluffy · 07/06/2024 10:13

I find them uncomfortable to use and much prefer Roka

Hotpinkangel19 · 07/06/2024 12:55

Definitely the most uncomfortable bag i have ever owned. And i got the dark maroon - looked so scuffed and scruffy even though hardly used.

Madcats · 07/06/2024 13:22

DD has 2 Kanken (the standard size and the larger laptop one). I think they are both 5 or 6 years old. I try to remember to rub some wax into them at the start of the academic year.

Not just for school, they are great for a casual overnight stay (it saves dragging a suitcase around).

You should be able to find a storelocator on your local Fjällräven website. Posher camping stores and department stores sell the bags in the UK.

Just wondering, "My Fox Bag" is a legit site?

Could pls someone advise :)

Chimchar · 08/08/2024 11:22

I have had a couple of kanken bags.
My first few I bought from eBay. They were very cheap and deffo knock off's, however, literally, side by side with a genuine bag, it was almost impossible to tell the difference.

My current one is genuine and has been going for years. I bought the extra padded straps which makes it much more comfy for carrying heavy stuff everyday.

Have a look at the fijalraven website... they sometimes have good offers on there.

Yes, it is. I've used them a couple of times.

There is a list on the Fjällräven website that has all the official retailers.

Klingfilm · 08/08/2024 15:38

If you have chance to go into London there's a shop called the Brokedown Palace in Shoreditch that sells all the different varieties of Kanken, really useful to see them all!
Oops, just realised OP is in the EU. I know I've seen some Kanken bags in a German department store but that probably isn't helpful!
