So I've recently come out of a 21 year relationship. A dreadful one.

My wardrobe is shit and ancient. I need to start feeling good again and ashamed every time I catch sight of myself in a shop window.

I can't afford much but I want to start from scratch and build up some classic basics. Both summer and winter.

I'm 6ft. Size 14. 53.

Any pointers please?

Well done first of all that's really brave.

Fashion wise - look online for styles you like and items you think you need. Look at capsule wardrobes and decide on one you like - then head for Vinted or eBay and search for the same. I find that materials make a massive difference so look for good quality items - you can get some really good silk or cashmere items so cheaply on there.

Take your time and just enjoy buying your new wardrobe.

M&S have got some good basics in. Have a browse and try on there to see what suits you. And start from the bottom, so make sure your bra fits well, and your knickers/socks don’t have holes in them!

Sort of related to comments by previous poster. I find nice underwear makes a difference at the start of every day. I buy 2 pairs of matching knix when l buy a new bra. I supplement with others though.

It’s summer, so l think it’s time for dresses and colours. Winter clothes can wait.

It might not be for everyone but l’m 40 something (l stopped counting at 40) and recently had my nose pierced; tiny stud. You might like to consider something similar as part of re-inventing yourself! Enjoy your new life x .
