As the title says, really.

I haven't worn makeup in years because I could never afford decent makeup, and I could never get to grips with it so I would start and then give up, start and then give up again.

Now I'm back at starting again and while I was in the makeup isle at the supermarket, I felt so out of place. I know I have low self-esteem and I said to my DH that I felt like a clown while looking for the right foundation for my skin tone. He reassured me that I'm not a clown. But anyway, I have a pale complexion, not quite pale enough for porcelain, so I went with something called 'Classic Ivory' from Rimmel Match Perfection. It seems that any foundation with 'ivory' in the name is my skintone.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, am I doing this right? I just want to feel like a normal woman. I don't consider myself pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I want to try to look good instead of blotchy and plain.

I'm sorry if I'm not making much sense. The Sunday night blues aren't helping.

Maybe go to boots to the number 7 counter and ask them to colour match you a foundation and recommend a few bits and pieces and show you how to use them to help your confidence a bit?

What about a tinted moisturiser? I've never been consistently into make up but this is a game changer for me.

Do you have a Department store nearby that you could visit? I go to my local John Lewis and you can walk up to any of the make-up counters and ask the staff to do a colour match for a foundation for you. I really like Estée Lauder foundation but my skin changes tone throughout the year. The lady at the counter helps me to find the correct match.

I recommend No 7 too, staff are knowledgeable and it's not particularly expensive.

I've just bought this too, it's lovely

You can totally change your look with make up (not that you need it) but if you want to

I would recommend getting your brows tinted and after foundation use a little bronzer (lightest shade eg. I use butter bronzer - I will find the link) and decent mascara (doesn’t have to be expensive eg false lash by essence)

OnehundredStars · 03/06/2024 00:09

Link is awful sorry - it’s physician formula extra light
