This dress came up on my FB feed as ad.
I never wear dresses especially long ones but I went yesterday into my local H&M and they had them- I bought it, I like the print and the green colour.
I don’t know what I will do with it, as I live in skinny (old style) jeans and trainers.
I might cut it into short blouse / summer tunic.
Do you like it?

I love it!!! (And I don't usually like much of what people post on here). I want one too now.

Junesnights · 01/06/2024 21:28

@Junesnights these were sold out but I just noticed few back in stock, were sold out when i originally seen it hence went to my local store.
If you get one, downsize, these come big. I’m size 12/14 and got sz S, could go for XS too as S is still baggy..

Yes love it

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/06/2024 00:35

Cutting it into a short blouse or tunic is a ridiculous waste of a dress.

It's a good, easy to wear, everyday summer dress.

dudsville · 02/06/2024 08:22

Great dress, and I agree with the pp, keep it as it is!

Junesnights · 02/06/2024 08:26

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle what shoes would I wear with it?
I only have about 12 pairs of converse in various colours ( no white ones btw) I don’t wear flats or heals.
My mum was horrified when I sent her the pic, saying this is not you, DH was shocked.
My DC liked it but she is teen…oh well.
I won’t cut now it as I managed to order a top in same print as well.

It'd be great with Converse, with sandals or slides.
Sometimes I shy away from wearing things that I've decided are "not me" but it's crazy. That's a fab dress in a great colour and fine for anything on a sunny day. I wear dresses almost all of the time in the summer- just stored my last pair of jeans away yesterday and won't get them out till the end of September.

NellietheNumpty · 02/06/2024 08:32

I have a similar dress and wear it most weeks. This week I wore it to meet a friend of tapas with a plain Oliver Bonas sweatshirt over it and Vans in the same colour as the sweatshirt.https://www.oliverbonas.com/search/sweatshirt

Junesnights · 02/06/2024 08:51

@onlyconnect perfect, then converse it is!
I got few green also and black ones as well but all are low ones though.
I used to wear dresses when I was in my 20s ( grunge era lol) since that I moved to skinnies and converse, thinking no more dress or skirts, but yeah, that’s crazy actually to avoid them.
I absolutely love the print and the material, it’s so airy and floaty, green is my favourite colour hence I thought I need to buy it.

Hard agree. Just enjoy it as a dress, perfect for sweltering days.

‘Extraordinary scenes …’

Is this truly what your life is like, @Junesnights - so constricted by other people’s narrow perceptions of you? Or are you exaggerating for effect??

You could wear Converse with that dress. You could wear flat pumps or Mary Janes or any type of sandal or espadrilles. It's such a wearable dress I'm struggling to think of a type of footwear you couldn't wear with it.

As it's long sleeved I would wear it in autumn or even winter with flat laced ankle boots. You could wear flat knee boots too.

Unless you are exaggerating your husband's and mother's reactions are bizarre.

Verite1 · 02/06/2024 11:40

I like it but lots of people have it. Depends if that is going to bother you. There is always one dress (usually h and m or Zara) that half the female population seem to buy. I think this one might be it this year!

Junesnights · 02/06/2024 15:26

@Wordless @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle
nope. I sent my mum a picture of me trying it in the fitting room and her reaction was, that’s horrible, looks so old fashioned and doesn’t suit you.
DH on other hand only ever has seen me in jeans , hoodies and trainers, so he couldn’t understand why I got the dress.
Not need to exaggerate, I think it’s a normal reaction from them as I don’t usually wear any dresses or skirts.
I didn’t see anyone wearing the dress yet as I live a bit in the country so not many people wearing dresses around.

@Junesnights Is your mum Anna Wintour? Assuming she's not, I'd just ignore her comments. Wear what you want. It's a nice dress. So you don't usually wear dresses, who cares? Time for a change. No-one needs to 'understand'. It's your life and you make your own choices. Tell your mother and your DH that you didn't ask for their opinions. You like it. We like it.

Wordless · 02/06/2024 15:45

How long have you and your husband been together?

LOVE IT. And pissed off because I just spent £165 on a similar one from Toast!
OP, buy it and just wear it with trainers!

verylongday · 10/08/2024 18:46

I am wearing a similar dress at the moment. It's green and I have been wearing pink gazelles with it. Perfectly normal outfit imo. I also live in deep countryside.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 10/08/2024 18:49

That dress is very far from old fashioned, don't listen to your mum.

I like it! Looks perfect for warm weather.

Junesnights · 11/08/2024 19:29

Thanks everyone, as predicted I never worn it, it’s still in my wardrobe with the tickets still attached, I might just get rid of now.. I can’t see it on me..

OP posts:
Lentilweaver · 11/08/2024 20:01

Oh come on, dont get rid of it. It's a lovely dress, and a beautiful colour.

I used to be a jeans person but with hotter summers, have switched to dresses. They are so much more comfortable in the heat. You can too! Will go fine with Converse.
Stop paying any attention to the opinions of your DH and mum.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/08/2024 21:20

Sorry OP, but that's just madness.

Not only is it a very wearable, easy to wear day dress, it's one of the nicest dresses which have been on recent threads.

Why won't/ can't you wear it? Your mother hasn't a clue what she's talking about and I'm not sure what relevance your husband's opinion has.

Dandeliontea123 · 11/08/2024 23:24

You like it. So wear it!
