Celine vs Loewe

Last year I purchased a YSL bag and then found out on mumsnet, they are not cool (still adore it).

So I thought I’d ask for some advice first - I’m looking for a woven summer basket type bag.

I like the Loewe one and the Celine, both medium.

Do people think they will date quickly? Too branded? Any others I could consider? Any thoughts welcome please!

Since you seem to somewhat care about trend relevance for these bags, the Loewe basket has had its moment and then some. Basket/raffia bags in general tbh, it seems to be more about canvas atm.

I don't think the standard Celine raffia bags are of very good quality, especially considering the price but I do really like the classic panier with the logo very subtly woven as the design but I find it very overpriced for what it is.

Dragon diffusion might be worth looking at, woven leather bags that have a bit of a raffia vibe but will last a lot longer.

Thanks! I have gone for the Sezane one.

I definitely wanted a raffia bag and this one feels less branded and hopefully will date less.

I love a raffia bag and have Sezane. I think you’ll like it

I have a dragon diffusion bag, it’s a few yrs old but I love it. I think the Loewe baskets are a bit overdone now as pp says.

You really want to take advice from people who dress in Boden, Seasalt and Uniqlo on what’s cool? 😂

I looked at these online and they look lovely and chic. I don’t think I could pull one off. I think they’d look granny ish with my style!

I think they are quite easy bags to wear tbh, I’m sure you wouldn’t look grannyish! Sezane have some nice ones though, I was eyeing up an embroidered one earlier.

Do yourself a favour and choose something that people can look past in order to see you rather than what's hanging on your shoulder/body/feet etc. I don't mean to sound judgemental - I love following what's in style and making careful choices, But I feel quite rattled after a weekend away when I was seeing women bringing branded handbags to breakfast. Who does that? And so many women wearing identical tan Hermes H sandals (some admittedly likely to be knock offs).

For a summer bag I’d rather either use something like my cream Dior saddle bag, or a vintage raffia/straw/embroidered bag.

Nothing on earth could make me buy a designer raffia bag or a fabric Dior one. I can kind of see why people buy them but they’re such a waste of money.

And I like (or should I say liked, as I don’t buy designer bags anymore) designer bags. Most of my peers are the same though now. Amazing what takes priority when you have bills, kids and a mortgage.

I follow a local woman who’s a Marie Claire fashion editor (I had no idea before!) and she gets a lot of her designer shoes on eBay or vinted, pre loved. She’s got some amazing bargains but means when she does splash out on designer ones, she gets lovely ones. Though she, like us, has impulse buys which she then returns.

@Ncadviceforthebag you've hit a nerve here I think! I have resolved that next time I come across someone with a bag with a Loewe logo I will openly and innocently admire that wonderful curly leather work and earnestly ask them where they found it.

I can't believe the prices for rafia bags now, and most are not lined. I have an older one from Banana Republic that I still like. it's lined in cotton and has a zip and snap closure. I think it needs a bit of a tidy up with a damp cloth, but will do for another summer.

Femme2804 · 28/05/2024 23:23

I love bags. But for woven, raffia, or straw bag i wont buy luxury bags. I’ve got demellier santorini bag for my beach bag. I think its better than celine or loewe. And its very trendy.

but if its for leather bags i go with celine all the way. Dont like loewe.

I'm going to holiday in Spain in September, so a nice rafia/straw bag is on my list of shopping items.
