If you were off out for a nice lunch today what would you be wearing?

Am off out for a nice lunch with an elderly relative and I'm lacking inspiration. If you were going out in these circumstances what, from your wardrobe, would you wear?

I’m out for brunch and I’ve got a pair of taupe and black floral summer floaty wide leg trousers, a black cami with a black sheer lace collar shirt over it (unbuttoned).
the trousers were from either Temu or shein and were cheap as chips but this is their second summer, the shirt is next, I just like the fit and cut of them and I’ll be very sad when they’re no longer serviceable.

I have a navy short sleeved midaxi (so like ankle length?) and would wear with a tan leather waist belt and tan sandals/shoes- I think it’s a real classic.

I also have a pastel floral version of the dress which my Grandma LOVES every time I wear!

Uncooperativefingers · 28/05/2024 08:17

Simple flattering sleeveless navy midi dress, looks very classic. Depending on how smart, I'd pair it with a pair of flat tan sandals or cream slingbacks and a cream handbag.

Chunky gold earrings and a 5bar hat gold bracelet

VenusClapTrap · 28/05/2024 08:21

A green linen jumpsuit from Jigsaw.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 28/05/2024 08:23

A raincoat . . . . it's p*ing down with rain here!

Sorry, probably not the sort of answer you were hoping for . . . .

Floisme · 28/05/2024 08:25

I'm also out for lunch today although I guess in my case, I'm the elderly relative.

I'm planning on wearing some Me and Em cargo trousers (recent second hand find) and a 1960s linen jacket. However my backs playing up so I might swap that for a tailored men's suit jacket with inside pockets so I don't need to carry a bag. Raincoat on top cos weather.

I don't know what my family will be wearing but I'm looking forward to seeing them and finding out.

I love summer midi/midaxi dresses, so I would wear one of those - probably this one

With a navy vest top underneath and blue pumps. It isn't warm enough to go sleeveless where I am or to wear sandals. I would probably ruin the look with a jacket or cardigan because it is chilly.

No tan or gold in my wardrobe. Silver accessories and navy or black footwear only.

I’m short with cankles so I’d prob where jeans, a top and some wedges.

Wordless · 28/05/2024 08:48

Oh gosh, I, too, would be the elderly relative.Grin

I’m away from home and living out of a suitcase so, from what I have available - probably a sleeveless ankle length ivory cotton and silk knitted dress from Loulou Studio last year. And probably an enormous mustard coloured cable knit Marni cardigan which looks best just slung over my shoulders. And the smarter of two pairs of brown boots.

I guess it would be ok …

olderbutwiser · 28/05/2024 08:52

I think we’re both elderly, but I am the younger elderly person in denial.

“vintage” striped cos t shirt (ie one I’ve owned for years), denim jacket, nice scarf, red belt, new M&S wide leg trousers, last years white trainers because I’m not wearing my new ones in the rain. And a raincoat.

Mairzydotes · 28/05/2024 09:34

Skinny jeans and a patterned blouse. I like patterns for eating out, as I often get food on myself.

ScreenPrinting · 28/05/2024 10:37

Depends how fancy and depends on weather!

To vaguely cover all bases, I think I would go with olive linen slouchy trousers (Jigsaw), floaty olive camisole top (Hush) and cream lightweight blazer (can’t remember where from in Italy) with sleeves rolled up. More casual shoes to off-set the smartness of the blazer, so probably just leather trainers. Or possibly my Cos flat Mary-Janes.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 28/05/2024 11:49

Just getting ready to go for lunch at the moment and I'm wearing khaki green linen wide leg cargo pants, a cream white silk cami, a cream jersey slouchy blazer and my white Puma platform trainers

RampantIvy · 28/05/2024 12:12

I would revise my earlier post. It is currently 14 degrees where I am, so it would be smart jeans, a warm jumper and my smart trainers (with socks underneath), plus a raincoat as there are black clouds outside.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2024 12:13

A nice, summery dress - I like Joe Browns dresses - and a cardigan.

In fairness, though, I am cheating, because I wear either a dress or a skirt and top every day.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 28/05/2024 12:23

It’s raining here. I’d wear black wide leg jeans, black chunky boots, a cotton jumper and some nice jewellery.

RabbitsRock · 28/05/2024 12:29

A knee length black floral Wallis dress I bought recently in a charity shop - wore it for my anniversary meal & just felt so good in it. Not bad for £6!

VenusClapTrap · 28/05/2024 12:34

I’m revising my choice too. Too cold for my jumpsuit. I’m switching to long sleeved winter midi dress with long boots and tights.

(I’m actually sitting in a cafe while ds does an activity and freezing my tits off in a t-shirt and jeans)

Petrine · 28/05/2024 12:41

Straight leg trousers with shirt and waistcoat with loafers.

Wordless · 28/05/2024 12:51

I’m not going out for lunch - but the rain is certainly giving me confidence in my theoretical choice of outfit. The boots in particular.

tobee · 28/05/2024 13:30

I'm out for early dinner later and will be wearing harper jeans and a dark green smartish shirt. It's what to wear on top of that as the weather is confusing atm and might be rainy or chilly or dry and mild at any given minute.

I'll be wearing jeans rather than a dress or anything else as need to feel like my tummy is under control.

tobee · 28/05/2024 13:32

Also I always feel boiling when I get ready so have to remember to take jackets etc for the actual outside.
