Copper colour mistake

Foxlover46 · 20/05/2024 20:17

Hi
I've done the absolute thing you're not meant to do and colour ripped my hair at home to get a cherry red box dye out.
It's lifted the dark out lovely but has left my hair a really bright copper / ginger which I won't be able to tone with any toners I bought.
Would anybody be able to advise me , I'm really on a tight tight budget so cannot afford to go to a salon and have it down professionally , but is there any blonde that will cover the colour ? I usually dye mine light ash blonde due to the amount of white and grey I have around my scalp.
I know this is on me but any help is great fully appreciated please 😅

The permanent dye you used has lightened your natural hair to that orange/copper colour. You're not going to get it blonde without bleaching. I'd suggest a light ash brown to tone down some of the colour.

Were you using ColourB4 or similar?

That happens. It can't remove warm tones. I've experienced the same. It can only do so much.

The only thing that wi get that warmth out is bleach I'm afraid. But you can get bleach powder and developer from Amazon for say £10 quid each.

That said I rather like that colour.

Sorry I'm no help but your current colour looks very striking and lovely! Can you be persuaded to keep it? 😄

MountCaramel · 21/05/2024 01:34

I actually really like the colour. Why not keep it as it looks lovely.

dudsville · 21/05/2024 01:40

I'm of no help, i also really like the colour!

Ohhhthedrama · 21/05/2024 01:57

I can't suggest a blonde, but I dyed my hair a light auburn last weekend, and it was pretty much bright orange. So yesterday, I picked up a light ash brown, and it's definitely taken the warmth out and left me with a cool brown shade. Not the blonde you are looking for but might be an option to tone down the orange.

GogAndMagog · 21/05/2024 03:31

Red hair dye is known for its lack of sticking power! It will fade so much. But looks lovely right now.

I'd be using the head and shoulders and maybe a semi permanent ash brown as previously suggested.

2 options !
Go darker !
or lighter u will have to lift the warmth out with bleach !
im a hairdresser if u go darker u will have warmth coming throu as it fades u can’t tone that to a dark blonde unfortunately if u lift a couple of levels u will be able to thou x

Ah thank you all so much for your help and advice and for the ones saying it is a lovely colour thank you too , it looks much nicer in the picture as the roots have lifted to a really pale yellow / orange which I am guessing would be my natural grey!
I'm scared to go with bleach in case it fries it too much , that happened as a teen and had to have so much cut off.
I have worn it pink before for a concert I'm just not that confident with this colour but thank you so much :)

I did buy blue shampoo to calm it down but to be honest it didn't do anything just dried it out a bit

Wella colour charm toner T18

No way. Your hair needs to be pale yellow for t18 to work. If you put it on your hair it will tone near the roots- you said they were lighter?- but do nothing for the ends.

I’m not a hairdresser but have had many of my own hair based disasters to learn from.

If you’re worried about your hair being damaged id probably put a Demi colour on it for now and see how it fades out. Probably a level 7, maybe 6. It’s difficult to tell on my phone, but it looks quite a strawberry colour. So an ashy light brown should knock out some of the warmth (if that’s what you want?)

Foxlover46 · 21/05/2024 18:08

I brought the T18 toner but haven't used it yet as didn't think it would do anything
I might try bleaching for a shorter time limit and see if it lifts
I do love brown but the amount of grey I have means I have to re do the roots almost weekly and the blonde allows me to have a little bit longer in between.
I shouldn't have broke the formula I had browsed old pics and fancied being darker again!
Thank you again I wish I had the confidence to stay this colour
