Hats

I think I need to wear a hat for extra sun protection but I feel silly wearing them. On holiday abroad I’d wear one occasionally but never here. Do you wear one? Just a cap or do you wear a prettier one day to day on walk for example?

Any hat wearers out there?!

I frequently wear a slightly floppy but not too big sunhat. Generally I wear it if I'm spending more time outside like at the weekend.

I like a baker boy style cap when it rains. Occasionally a beret.

Please do wear a hat in the sun, you'll get used to it and it will keep you safe. And always sunglasses!

I do, always when them when very sunny, but wearing more often now. I have a variety of styles carpenter, bucket, large floppy, do need a good Panama hat tho. Usually find things I like in Cos, M&S menswear, outdoor brands.

I always do because I hate sunglasses - I always feel a bit depressed and 'cut off' in them. A hat also covers up my increasingly frequent 'bad hair days' with age... In the winter it protects my glasses and hair from rain... it's got to the stage I'm like an oldy-type person from last century who doesn't feel fully dressed without a hat! 👩‍🌾 If I'm out and about I always check what hats the local shops have...

My problem is hat hair when I take it off. Maybe a lighter one rather than a cap would help with that? I just feel really self conscious wearing one! Will look at all the ones mentioned, thank you.

Yes, I do wear one. I got a sunburnt parting when I was much younger and have never forgotten the pain! Don't wear any other sort of hat though as I don't really like them.

JaneEyreBedHair · 20/05/2024 16:48

I wear one now too. I got mine last summer from Village Hats. I was fussy - it had to be made of linen, have a decent size brim and be available in a larger size than most high street shops sell as I seem to have a wide head. I got the Sur la Tete Lily hat. Fitted my brief & v happy with it.

WeRateSquirrels · 20/05/2024 16:50

I also recommend Solbari - the Australians know about sun protection!

coxesorangepippin · 20/05/2024 16:51

I occasionally wear a baseball cap

I don't mind those big floppy hats but feel a bit pretentious in then really

Breadcat24 · 20/05/2024 17:11

twirl your hair up and pin it before the hat then if your hair is longish you should not get hat hair.
if you are talking about a crown issue you have too small a hat or a synthetic one making you sweat

Exactly this. I used to feel self conscious but feel very comfortable and better protected now. I don’t see many wearing them but I hear a lot of talk about putting sunscreen on but then if I ask a friend if they have they always say no with a reason which is understandable but lame when you think about the harm we now know about. Also the way hats are made with no ventilation isn’t that great but I found a great one that doesn’t make me head sweat but does still flatten my hair but rather flat hair to the alternative.

Thank you - speaking from experience as my DH had to have surgery on his head due to pre-cancerous cells. Too many hours of tractor driving when young probably. My optician made me promise to always wear sunglasses and I do mostly!

I struggle to find hats big enough without also putting my hair up!

Pressed the button too quick.
My other choice is https://jojohatsofdevon.co.uk/

I like to wear a hat to stop my hair blowing around my face and also instead of using sunblock on my face, which more often than not ends up in my eyes. There are lots of nice ones out there.
