Why does Vinted use non standard size categories?

In my mind and across a lifetime of serious clothes shopping, a S = 10 and a M = 12.

But in Vinted land, S = 8 and M = 10. You have to check the garment to see if the person means it’s a size 10 or a Medium, which to me are just different things. And I have to select both S and M on a hunt for size 10 clothing.

Also how is 12 Large.

I guess sizing means a lot less these days generally but does anyone else find this weird?

When I was a size 12 many years ago! It was always a large it was never medium. 12 is L.

Yes, I find it frustrating too. Same for the children's clothes. Some people put 5-6 as 5 and others as 6 so you have to tick both and filter out a lot you're not interested in.
I wonder if it's based on American sizing?

In my mind and lifetime, S=8 =36, M=10=38. I think Vinted is correct and you are not.

Where companies do dual sizes, I've seen S=8-10 and/or M=10-12, but not what you say.

It just pisses me off that there are so many x’s at the top of the scale, and so few at the bottom. It does my head in a weird mathematical/visual sense.

It the children's sizes that I find problematic. If you use the age 5 filter, you get a mix off 4-5 and 5-6, so if your looking for 5-6 you need to select the age 6 as well, to catch any in there, but them have to shift through 6-7.

I put a picture of the size label on the listing so people can see it's a size 14 rather than an XXL or whatever.
