Bikini top for bigger boobs (40DD)

I am looking for a decent bikini top. I am a size 14 but 40DD bra size and 16 and even 18 in the standard shops are way too small. Crop top styles can't fit over my boobs and even the thicker style halter neck padded ones don't cover the whole boob and an 18 doesn't do up at the back.

I have looked at a few online in the plus size websites but you have to pay for returns and I am going to want to order a few for size.

I have ordered some plain black swim shorts to wear on my bottom half just want a couple of nice tops.

Hi
Have a look at M & S I believe they do Bra sizes in some of their swimwear. Hope you find something.

Bravissimo. I’m a 34G/36FF and this summer I got an actual bikini top which fitted perfectly! I loved it and it’s prompted me to update my bra drawer as I realised how happy a well fitted bra makes me 😂

Edit to add: don’t know where you are but I’m fairly near an actual Bravissimo shop so got a selection delivered to the shop and returned the ones I didn’t like via the shop - so posting was free :)

@Froniga why quote the question which is directly above your answer?

40DD is an unusual size. To be this size you'd measure 40 inches underbust and 45 inches overbust.
If you've been measured by M&S or in the old style, they may have added 4 inches to your underbust measurement. You could try a 36H if so. Panache make great bra-sized bikini tops.

CatWontBudge · 19/05/2024 11:01

I agree with @Zucchero. If you're a size 14 you're incredibly unlikely to be a 40" underband. Much more likely to be a 36 with a larger cup size. When I was wearing M&S bras I was in a 40D, went to bravissimo and came out in a 36E. And my boobs looked much better because they were correctly supported and in the right place on my chest. I'm also a size 14. And I find bravissimo bikinis the best for a great fit. They last well too, my first one is now on its 6th summer.

Another one here to say at a size 14 you're not going to be a 40 band. The general rule of thumb is add 20 to your dress size to get your band size- so unless you're a size 20 dress you're probably not a 40 band. Suspect that's been an M&S measurement or similar where they still measure as if bra bands aren't elasticated. Try a 34G or possibly 36FF if you feel you want a loose fit (though this will do nothing to lift your boobs as the band is what does the heavy lifting) as I suspect those are more likely your real size. And definitely buy a few with good returns policy and try on. Have fun shopping.

Size 12/14 here. Boob size 34 HH cup size.

I make an annual trip to bravissimo and stock up. Buy my bikini and swimming costumes. I like to swim lengths for fitness so need a decent swimming costume and they do ones by speedo with integral bras. Normal costumes look awful on me.

Can you get to a bravissimo? You can ring up and book in for a fitting and the staff are excellent. Obviously bit more pricey than normal bikini but worth it for actually wearing something that fits.

I love their summer tops with integral bras too.

I'm a 14 and wear a 36ff/g. You're looking at a too big band size and too small cups. Try the sizes I am then go up or down a cup size at a time until you get the right fit. It'll be smoother, without digging in at the sides, with the front bit between the cups fitting flat against your chest.

One of the best bits of a well fitting bra is that it raises your boobs higher and makes your tummy look flatter.

I’m a 36F and a Fantasie too works for me.

No way you're a 40 at a size 14. Also a 40DD would make your boobs smaller if anything. Certainly not 'big'. You're more likely to go down a back size and up a cup - so 34F or something. Go to bravissimo
