Help with v neck covering up

I have a number of v neck tunics / dresses which I wear with camisoles/vests to avoid showing excessive bra & cleavage.

This works well enough other than in summer when it's just too hot to wear an additional layer.

I'm large boobed - so cute bra-lets etc aren't an option; and inept with a sewing needle so the YouTube alterations videos also not an option (unless I ask the dry cleaners to do as a repair). The items in question aren't ones where you could just clip together the 'v', IYSWIM.

So what are my options?

I liked the look of the modesty panels on Amazon which clip onto your bra, like this- but the consensus seems to be that even the plus sized ones aren't suitable for women with large breasts - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0CFZGCPF4/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=A2MMNFWVXGUJZ0&psc=1

l also looked at iron on patches (though these seem to be largely denim) or fabric tape and then stick some fabric behind the v neck. Which might be a decent permanent solution if done correctly. (Or ask the dry cleaners to stick some fabric behind the 'v').

Any other suggestions before allocating these items to 'not for hot weather wear'?!

Many, many thanks!

Annoyingly the company I was going to recommend don't seem to exist any more but I'll keep looking
They did a modesty panel for bigger boobs but it was a bandeau type that attached to your bra straps and came in all different colours
Was called the perfect cami

Have a look at the M&S cool comfort slips to go under dresses. Even in Summer they stop clothes from sticking and not like wearing another layer.

They are reversible so can be worn with the lace or a plainer v-neck on show.

buffyslayer · 18/05/2024 14:11

Would a cropped cami work?

TheNinjaWife · 18/05/2024 14:22

I have those modesty panel things and have never used them. They either look odd or move about. I wouldn’t recommend them. They would probably be better for a smaller bust though.
I do use modesty pins though. They definitely work, you can find packs on Amazon. You can use on a V neck which isn’t a cross over, as long as you have enough fabric.
Also I do have some bralette type things I wear over a bra and not instead of. I got several bright colours a couple of years back in M & S. Solid colour, non lace, so look more like a thin crop top.

I use modesty pins on wrap tops but am small breasted. Very useful things, though.

SuperGreens · 18/05/2024 14:28

Pure silk cami wont be hot and do the job

I was wondering that - I did see these on Amazon before posting

Ooh - that sounds perfect. I'll see if I can find that!

Thank you for this suggestion. I didn't know slips now existed in materials other than that shiny sweat inducing material!

I'll try one out - not so much for my v neck issue, I suspect, but for some lovely float summer dresses that are just a bit too see through in sunshine for places other than by a pool or beach

I did not know about modesty pins (the things you learn here!) - and thanks for your view on modesty panels. There probably wouldn't be enough fabric to use on the v neck - however, looks like they'd work well enough with the fabric suggested by @Chikasan

Right - I've ordered these! Not in an ideal fabric but worth a go (plus free returns as Amazon)

  1. multi pack of cropped camis

2.. And these- what I would describe as boob tubes!

I'll post as to whether either the cropped camisoles or boob tubes do the business

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/05/2024 14:18

Wahay - I've cracked it (I think)! 👏

I've got an 8 pack of 'bralettes' (aka boob tubes) and having worn one today for x7 hours, I think they'll do the trick!

And if they go a bit slack, I can use those modesty pin things a poster referred to earlier

Here is a picture of me in a too plunging v neck tunic with boob tube underneath

And here are the boob tubes from Amazon at £2.12 per piece

These look great...I don't have the big boob problem but am increasingly conscious of sun damage in that area..I burn with even factor 50!
