My daughter is looking for a dress for her graduation- she’s seen this but is worried it’s too casual but she loves the back. Any ideas? She’s size 6 dark hair pale skin

That is not a graduation dress. Won’t she be wearing a gown that covers the back anyway?

Looks like a clubbing/beach dress to me but praps that's what they wear?

University graduation?
Isn't it black and white clothing?

Klopite · 16/05/2024 14:37

Yes concerned it’s too casual.
university graduation has not been black and white clothing for years

It’s a lovely dress, but I’d recommend something a little sturdier!

She’ll need to pin the (heavy) gown to the front of her dress, so something that can take the weight of it is top priority.

Ah ok.
I'm in Scotland and it still is in many universities here

I thought graduation dresses were fairly covered and formal, and ideally with a button at the front to fix the gown. However from looking at google images maybe that’s out of date - a lot of the results are practically lingerie and make this look almost stuffy by comparison! My most recent graduation wasn’t that long ago though and I’m sure most people, even the youngsters, were more on the job interview than beach party end of the spectrum… has it changed very recently or are the results an American thing? I guess find out what all her friends are wearing and check the gown rental places advice on buttons and sleeves…

Pretty dress for holiday but not for graduation, from what I've seen from friends daughters in the last couple of years they look more structured - a few have used their graduation photos on LinkedIn so they've probably thought about looking more professional.

If it was my DD I'd be tempted to buy her that dress as a treat though, it's very pretty and perfect for summer (are we still getting a summer?!)

Well in my day everyone wore suits, but I expect things have changed and no doubt become less formal. This however looks like something for on the beach - I’d say it’s a step too far.
