Inspired by another thread about girls starting to use beauty and skincare products from an early age, I thought it'd be interesting to hear from other MNers about your favourite, trusted brands and products that don't contain harmful ingredients.

I love discovering new products from organic, ethical and sustainable manufacturers and small-batch makers - and if anyone has a fail-safe, natural anti-perspirant, I would be forever grateful! Nothing I've ever tried really works on this front.

One of my favourite manufacturers is Boxworth Botanicals:
https://boxworthbotanicals.com/ - their Rose & Frankincense face cream especially.

I also love Il Apothecary - it's not cheap but their Petitgrain & Clary Sage 'Beat the Blues' body oil is heavenly - https://www.ilapothecary.com/collections/beat-the-blues/products/beat-the-blues-body-oil

So, come on, hit me up with your own suggestions!

Boxworth Botanicals

Big fan of Naturisimo as they have a great range and show the credentials for each product with a focus on ethical products that work hard for you

I have quite a few!!

Cosy Cottage Soap, great face cream and soap/ shampoo bars. Not tried their deodorant yet.

Friendly Soap, shampoo, conditioner bars and soap.

The Natural Spa, great soap shampoo and conditioner bars.

Heavenly organics face and eye cream.

Earth conscious deodorant
Scence deodorant and lip balm
Wild deodorant - seems to perform the best so far!

I use plain coconut oil and almond oil for a lot of skincare/ haircare 🙂

Tabitha005 · 15/05/2024 17:10

Oooh, I love the look of Wild deodorant. Definitely going to try that, thanks!

Just thought of another one (soap related 😁again!) Simply Soaps. Good quality soap and reasonable prices.
https://www.simplysoaps.com/

I had look at the Boxworth Botanicals, looks interesting, but there are no product ingredients listed on the website. I like to look at ingredients before I buy ( I'm a bit geeky like that!).

I've only tried the fresh cotton and sea salt Wild deodorant, it smells like clean laundry on me, so not an essential oil type smell, but still nice.

simpy soaps

natural soaps, skincare, handmade, food for your skin, organic, plastic free, cruelty free, organic, herbal, vegan, solid shampoo, haircare, beard care, eczema, psoriasis

Obvs skincare.....every product I've bought has been fab and the intensive skin recovery cream is amazing for eczema/irritated skin. Not cheap but worth every penny. The lady who owns it is really passionate about it and it's a plastic free range.

Wild deodorant

Upcircle hydrating face serum with coffee

AnotherFuckingUsername · 16/05/2024 10:21

Another vote for Wild deodorant. Also rare akt deodorant highly (use for gym).

I repurchase upcircle's cleansing face milk (haven't tried it to take make up off - I use it in the morning or a second cleanse after oil cleanser) and their face moisturiser (my staple is cerave moisturiser, upcircles is thicker and use it when I feel I need more moisturising oomph).

Get a couple of big parcels of soap, laundry flakes and dish washing soap a couple of times a year from Chateau de Savon. I am a little bit in love with the soaps they sell!

Following as i love stuff like this. Neals Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm is my go to, multiple uses, including as a cleanser!

Thatsotypicallyme · 16/05/2024 19:23

Oooh! Following as and I'm constantly on the lookout for ethical and sustainable products. Thanks OP 🙂

Makeup wise - I've said it on here before but I'm a huge fan of English Mineral makeup.
Miles better than anything bare minerals came up with. The only problem is the packaging is a bit over the top. However you can buy refills from them.

Tabitha005 · 17/05/2024 14:49

Thanks everyone! Really loving the recommendations coming through - even if I know my bank balance is taking a major hit because of it!

I've ordered some Wild deodorant and will be trying the AKT deodorant too.

I'm very interested in make-up recommendations as well and have been looking for an ethical alternative to the L'Oreal micellar water I use to take my make-up off so the Upcircle recommendation has my attention too.

I use bloomtown body scrub which smells amazing.

And I use a manual Truthbrush and my husband has a bamboo head for his sonicare brush

I do like Lily Lolo for mineral make up too

@Tabitha005

Those Boxworth botanicals look good. Cheap too!

Sunnyday777 · 18/05/2024 11:47

Smoom face cream is amazing. I use the immortelle face floss and it’s the only cream that hasn’t made me break out in spots or red patches. It’s organic and local to me which is a bonus!

Tabitha005 · 21/05/2024 11:37

OK, quick update re: AKT deodorant: sadly, I'll be invoking the money-back guarantee as there's clearly some ingredient that my skin REALLY hates in it! Within ten minutes of trying it out, I was rushing to the bathroom to wash it off and my poor armpits were rebelling! I immediately broke out in a sore, red rash... probably should have tried a patch test first - that'll teach me!

Such a shame because it smelt incredible!

@Deathraystare - I really love their facial moisturisers.

Re wild deodorant Boots have small ones in their travel mini section. I wanted to try a tester first so got one and am really impressed. Will order from them now.

Oh no @Tabitha005 - hope your pits calm down!

Tabitha005 · 23/05/2024 14:16

Another update re: AKT - beware when buying their products to test. I also purchased the 'Assistant' tool at a cost of £9 - this is a solid metal tool that enables you to roll down the tube in order to squeeze every last drop of the product out.

AKT says their T&Cs don't include the refund of this part of my order so of my initial outlay of £36, I've been refunded £21 and lost £15 (£9 for the 'Assistant' and £4 for postage). Apparently, I can't send the tool back at my own cost to receive even a partial refund so I'll be throwing away a useless item. So, I've effectively paid £15 to scorch my own armpits. How marvellous!

OP posts:
Tabitha005 · 29/05/2024 16:18

I'm currently trialing Fussy's unfragranced natural deodorant and so far, so good. My armpits have not yet rebelled (a mere hour after first applying it)!
