I'm going round in circles trying to find the best red for me
I'm 59 and looking paler with age
I'm cool toned and I think a blue toned red would work
Russian red?
Brave red?
Dozen carnations? are just a few I've l looked at but I'm getting more confused with each one I try!
I'd be very grateful for your suggestions

Ruby woo, definitely. I have the matching lip pencil because my skin is quite cool and pale so reds can look pink without layering.

Russian red is a little bit brown. Lisa Eldridge seems to have some really good reds but I've not tried them.

My favourite blue red is Nars Red Lizard though!! Can't go wrong if that's the colour you want.

WhereAreWeNow · 14/05/2024 15:29

I always thought Russian Red was a blue red.

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon is a knockout blue red. Gorgeous.

Zhampagne · 14/05/2024 16:07

Yes, Ruby Woo. It is a neutral red but wears cool on most people.

Does it have to be MAC? It is a raspberry pink-red rather than a true red but Revlon Cherries in the Snow is fantastically flattering on cool complexions.

NashvilleQueen · 14/05/2024 17:22

Can I also recommend Rosy Record by Rimmel which I once saw recommended on here and I have to say is lovely for a cool toned pink. I order from Amazon.

NashvilleQueen · 14/05/2024 17:23

Sorry - my suggestion definitely more pink than red so feel free to ignore!!

ClonedSquare · 14/05/2024 17:30

I find Ruby Woo leans towards ketchup red, compared to the very slightly bluer and darker Russian Red which is much nicer. A lot of my friends used Ruby Woo and looked so much better when I got them to try Russian.

NoSnowdrop · 14/05/2024 17:38

Russian Red is exactly what you’re after from the Mac range however the suggestion for Lisa Eldridge is even better.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/05/2024 17:55

Russian red is a blue red and Dozen carnations is more of an orangey red.

I’ve got a blue or true red which is Dior and a Nars one too. Have to dig out names if you like.

Oh Thank you so much for all of your replies!
I have heard of Lisa Eldridge, but haven't looked at her colours
It's about time I treated myself to " my signature" lipstick after wasting so much money on wrong cheaper ones

I wear Ruby Phew (that’s what it’s called )
and fashion legacy both blue toned from Mac I’m cool and pale x

SabbatWheel · 14/05/2024 19:15

If you can get to a Mac shop they will find one that works for you. They found me Coffee and Cigarettes for a cool toned red-brown (on pale skin) and it was absolutely a perfect shade for me.

Bovrilla · 14/05/2024 19:15

The Lisa Eldridge ones are AMAZING. Really beautiful too, far nicer than Mac and a real treat.
