Any lovely style gurus who would like to style this for me? Bought a Ghost Diana skirt for dinner and cocktails next weekend. 40th birthday party of a friend.
Have no shoes and no top. Would really love to wear flats even if slightly smarter trainers (eg the link Gabor ones pictured).
I have NO IDEA what to wear as never need to be smart!
I’m 5’8, usually size 12 on the bottom maybe 10/12 on top. Broad ish shoulders / just about still hourglass after two kids!

Thanks @PragmaticDramatic Probably should have said I don’t think I’m looking for shoes like the ones shown with the skirt in the pic. I don’t really ever wear shoes like that (although maybe I should!) - I guess my go to shoes are docs / trainers / Birkenstocks / DM sandals. Perhaps that’s why this smart occasion has thrown me!

What do we think of the pink trainers? Big no? Any top ideas?

Huge no on the pink monstrosities trainers. Unless you are going somewhere particularly swish, I'd do skirt, DMs, t-shirt, prob black - but I'm very much a black clothes and DMs person. The photo of the skirt is not good, so assuming it's gorgeous in life and you being tall and slim, maybe a slightly cropped t-shirt? It looks a bit voluminous so you don't want volume on the top imo.

Lovely skirt but oh my GOD do not wear those awful trainers with it! I’ll have a hunt for shoe suggestions for you. Hang on.

Agree!

As for what top to wear, if you search on Pinterest for long satin skirt outfits you’ll see that mostly people wear a very simple top - often sleeveless tank tops. I wouldn’t go for black as it’ll deaden the skirt - I’d wear a similar shade in a different texture (eg silk knit). Or a silvery/ivory colour.

Sleeveless Knit Crop Top

Knitted sleeveless mock neck crop top with a fitted silhouette. Length of top: 43cm / 16.9" (Size S)

Yeah, I have to agree that the trainers you posted are hideous, lovely skirt though.

Personally I would wear DM sandals and then a much more dressy top to counterbalance them, such as the one below

Also a waistcoat would look nice

Ah thanks so much all!! Love the waistcoat / more jazzy top ideas. Guess it’s a no to the trainees then lol

also love the idea of just wearing DM sandals and t shirt - I have my eye on one from All Saints on Vinted. That would be much more ‘me’. The skirt isn’t actually that voluminous - bad photo as I cropped the top of the model. It’s fitted until the bottom bit but agree with @Usernamewassavedsuccessfully that it probs needs something more fitted on top.

you lot are so helpful ❤️
