What would people wear to come to the evening part of a wedding?

Invited to the evening do bit of a wedding. I have never actually been to 'just' the evening bit before, do people get as dressed up as they would if they were daytime guests or would that look weird? Obviously I wouldn't turn up in jeans and a top but I'm thinking slightly less effort might be socially acceptable? It's at a nice but wouldn't say crazy posh venue. Any tips much appreciated!

I'd wear a similar dress to what I'd wear to all all day weddings but without a hat or fascinator

Whatever you would wear to a wedding. The day guests will still be in their wedding garb. Not jeans unless the couple have said it is very casual.

I’d still dress up like I would for the actual wedding but no headgear.

A dress and shoes/sandals. Can't go much wrong with that. Dresses can be worn evening or day. Just stay away from jersey/denim/corduroy because that can look too casual.

If you don't like dresses then smart trousers and evening top/blouse.

I'd say a nice dress, or smart trousers and top if you prefer. Similar to going to full wedding.

On the contrary, you can go smarter/more dressy because you’re just going for the evening, so it’s all party! Would definitely be raising an eyebrow (internally!) at anyone who wore jeans.

Fab well i have plenty of nice dresses to wear - glad it's agreed that no need for hat etc too though!
