Hairy arms, remove or leave well alone ?

WishIwas40 · 09/05/2024 22:35

I have always had fair hair on my arms which has never bothered me and was only really noticeable if I got goose bumps and it stood on end !
It has now become more noticeable and in the wrong light my arms look furry especially the bottom part where the hair is quite long.
So MN should I have the hair removed and if so how ? or will this make it worse and I would be better to leave well alone ?

Veet is great for arm hair, you can apply it lightly so that some shorter hairs remain. Also because the hair dissolves the re growth is light and not stubbly. Only needs doing once every few weeks and cheap as chips.

I shaved my arms in high school because I got teased for them. So now I need to do it every few days. Not a big deal really.

MattDamon · 10/05/2024 08:19

If you've never shaved it, I'd give it a shave once and see how it grows back. I'm basically a werewolf and have had to laser off legs/tummy/lower back/pits/tache, but my arm hair stopped growing in my twenties. There's just very short peach fuzz-type growth there now.

MenopauseSucks · 10/05/2024 10:08

You can bleach the hair with Jolen body hair bleach.

Just don't do this then apply fake tan as you'll have to shave the now orange hair off & have weird speckly arms til the fake tan fades...
(A close friend did this as a teenager & her older brothers still take the piss out of her as soon as she gets any form of tan & we're all in our 50s!)

WhyamInotvomiting · 10/05/2024 10:16

Mine are thick dark hair but oddly they've genuinely never really bothered me like the hair everywhere else has! So I've always just left them.

eurochick · 10/05/2024 10:16

I veet mine occasionally in summer. I've also tried home ipl but I have lots of moles on my forearms and so can't get good coverage.

I used to wax mine but I CBA these days.

LMMuffet · 10/05/2024 10:32

Like a lot of Indian women, I get my arms waxed. Though I’m too lazy to do it much - usually just once every couple of months over spring and summer. I would never shave them though - regrowth on waxing doesn’t create stubble the way that shaving does. If you wanted to see how you feel by trying to remove it once, then I suggest waxing. But you’ll need to do your full arms - it looks a bit odd when someone has only done their forearms - like they are wearing hair sleeves which end at the elbow!

That said, if my hair wasn’t jet black and it wasn’t so common within my culture, I’m not sure I would bother!

paristotokyo · 10/05/2024 10:37

Mine were super hairy as a kid and I started to shave them but now as an adult they barely grow back and they're so light that I go months at a time before needing to do it again.. wish my legs would follow suit 😂

Goodawn · 10/05/2024 11:26

I wax mine about x3 per year. They aren't too coarse but they end up really long if I don't. Short ones are ok

PinkOrangeRed · 10/05/2024 11:38

I have pale skin with dark hair, & had extremely hairy forearms which caused me no end of grief as I was growing up, to the extent that I would never uncover my arms. My GPs weren't interested. I used Jolen but the hairs were still very noticeable. I was too scared to shave my arms in case of stubble. Five years ago I bought a Lumea & it was game-changing. The hairs have now gone and I just do some maintenance every few months. The difference it made to my life is huge.
I found the Lumea to work very well on fine, dark hair. It hasn't made any difference to coarser hair on my legs, but I don't mind shaving those!

I was bullied at school for having 'arms like forests' so I swiftly shaved. And this started the cycle of daily shaving thanks to pcos. The way the hair grows you have to shave widthways not lengthways down the arm but even so I'd get stubble by lunchtime and would always be scared people could see it.

As above, I started using my lumea on them and never looked back.

MademoiselleFrenglish · 10/05/2024 12:06

I bleach mine! Probably only needs to be done once every 6 weeks during summer, I don't bother in winter. I think shaved arms look strange and couldn't be bothered on top of shaving my legs daily in summer. I just buy one of the Nair/Veet body hair waxing kits, super easy just leave it on 10 ish mins and then wash off, would highly recommend!

What's wrong with a bit of hair?!

There is nothing wrong with a bit of hair, the same applies to men who opt for a beard. But there is nothing wrong with removing it either. It’s down to the individual. This is a style and beauty thread not a right or wrong thread.

OP asked about removing it or not...

Are you going to make this 'it's fine either way' response to every poster who comments in favour of hair removal? Or just the one against it?

Limberinta · 09/05/2024 22:59

Why would you want yet another thing to have to maintain and potentially ingrown hair on your arms? Arm hair is perfectly normal... I'm stunned people remove it

This, exactly. Think of all the fun, satisfying and interesting things you could be doing if you weren’t fucking about with arm stubble. Just leave it. It’s entirely normal to have hair on your arms.

UrbanFan · 10/05/2024 17:04

I miss my hairy arms. Now I'm an old lady all the hairs have disappeared.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 10/05/2024 19:04

I wax mine a couple of times a year, it seems to work well.

I have really dark hairy arms, sadly it comes with having really dark hair and olive skin according to my mother!

TheChosenTwo · 10/05/2024 19:07

I leave mine, just an hour or so in the sun over the past few days seems to have bleached mine. I’m either cold and have dark hairy arms that are covered with long sleeves or it’s hot and sunny and my arms are out and the hairs are bleached pretty quickly.
i used to be self conscious about my hairy arms but I’m not anymore.

VanTullek · 10/05/2024 19:36

If you must remove it, definitely wax or cream. Arm stubble is a bad look and a worse feel.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 10/05/2024 19:45

I've got arms like chewbacca due to pcos but luckily I'm blonde so I shave them and they don't look like there covered in blackheads even when stubbly.
I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them hairy

EnglishBluebell · 10/05/2024 19:48

WishIwas40 · 10/05/2024 06:17

Thank you for all the advice, definitely nothing wrong with a bit of hair and it’s likely no one else really notices, I’m just not loving the furry look !
I don’t want to shave them so will do some research on IPL and waxing
once again thank you all for the sound advice.

If your hair is blonde then IPL won’t work

IWishThatYouWouldStay · 10/05/2024 19:56

I've been waxing mine for about 25 years. Still grows back! It's very fine and fair like you. I think I'm going to start shaving instead - although I love how it feels when it's just been waxed. Super smooth and exfoliates/rips the top layer of your skin off!

Get rid OP, smooth arms rock.
