Straightening iron or curling tong waves always end up frizzy

I have shoulder length hair that is all one length. It's fine but I have a lot of it.
My hairdresser uses the straighteners to wave it and it looks fab. Then I try to do it. Complete disaster.

I have watched so many youtube videos on how to curl with straighteners or tongs. Whatever I do, I always end up with frizzy ends. Looks like I've been plugged in.

I've just had a go with tongs. Used heat protector spray on each section. Combed it through, then wound it round, leaving the ends out. Ive now got a dry, wavy, frizzy mess. It needs a comb/brush, but that way leads to disaster.

Any tips? Help!!!

What straighteners are you using? My hair is similar to what you describe, the only way to control it is with Cloud 9’s wide plates and sleep in a silk bonnet

I have similar hair to you OP. I dry hair with a dryer and when it’s nearly dry smooth coconut oil through the ends and mid lengths then finish drying.
I use the lowest temp I can to create curls that last (160 degrees). If it still looks dry I run a bit of Frizz Ease serum through it with my fingers once the curls have cooled.

My roots tend to frizz if I’m curling my hair so I use colour wow dream coat, you spray it on then blow dry it, you’re supposed to use a brush to hold it taut but if I’m in a rush I just hold it so it’s tight iykwim. Once dry I curl it and it makes my hair really shiny and it’s supposed to be somewhat waterproof but I’m dubious about those claims.
