Bombshell HQ in Liquidation!?

I just went to order a dress from the site to discover it's in liquidation. I see Bombshell recommended so much on Mumsnet. How can this be!? Please forgive me if there's already a thread on this.

It’s such a shame. Love her dresses. I wasn’t sure the latest ones were going to shift. A bit OTT for my taste.

yogagivesmepeace · 08/05/2024 20:08

Sorry to hear this. I had a lovely dress from them for my son's wedding; I travelled from the North West to their showroom in Muswell Hill, and had a nice day out: very helpful and attentive staff there.

KomproMatilda · 09/05/2024 01:06

I’m surprised - I assumed MN alone would keep them afloat for ever.

I don’t like the clothes, find them boring and would never wear anything from there but I know the brand is remarkably popular on S&B.

I just found the liquidation notice on the website as I went to buy another dress. That is so disappointing. I only have three or four of her dresses, but have long aspired to a wardrobe full.

Hopefully the designer will come back under a new brand name.

I too thought Mumsnet buyers alone would have generated a healthy bottom line. Doesn't make sense.

It could be something to do with location/overhead versus small production volumes.

I've been a Bombshell customer for an absolute age. Love love love them ! Beautiful fabrics and all my quality pieces were made right here in London. Sure they will be back (fingers and toes crossed) x

Floisme · 11/05/2024 18:59

I've never bought from them but I'm very sorry to hear that. It must be so difficult for independent businesses to compete with the conglomerates, and I'm guessing the post pandemic decline in dressing up finished them off.

Spirallingdownwards · 11/05/2024 19:02

I think some of the fabric choices for the most recent clothes and the massive hike in prices of some items may have been an issue. They may have been better off as a supplier to shops that do MOB or MOG or occasionwear stores.

daphneorvelma · 06/06/2024 16:07

I am so sad about this! I love their dresses, and was just going to recommend them to someone else.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/06/2024 23:04

Always sad to see a business go under. But to be honest I'm not surprised... the clothes were very expensive for what they were. I ordered a dress from them and the hem was really wonky and disappointingly there wasn't enough room for my bust - despite the promise that this was a dress made for an hourglass figure.

I think the idea was good but the clothes didn't live up to the promise for me.

KomproMatilda · 15/06/2024 12:04

It’s obviously sad when a brand folds. But I won’t be sorry for the loss of its presence on every single wedding guest dress thread.

There’s a generation (maybe more than one or two) of women who genuinely seemed to believe that Bombshell was the only option for any woman with an hourglass type of figure. And they could be quite vituperative if one suggested something else.

BlurpBlorp · 08/08/2024 08:42

I know, I was gutted to see this 💔I'm such a fan; they fit me like a glove and weren't just mother of the bride-y either, I wear mine on nights out (I have like, 9 of them 😬) I hope they do come back, they were exquisite and so beautifully-made.

LiterallyOnFire · 08/08/2024 14:00

If anyone finds out where the existing stock is being sold, could they please post? Thanks.

Lentilweaver · 08/08/2024 14:16

Body con and clingy has been out for a while. I am still sorry to hear that, though.

Easipeelerie · 23/08/2024 20:56

I bought one a few years ago but had to send it back. The v was nowhere near deep enough so although I was supposedly in this sexy velvet dress, I actually looked just like a char lady in a crossover tabard.

yogagivesmepeace · 26/08/2024 19:24

LOL at a charlady in a crossover tabard: yes, I had a Bombshell dress that I felt had a Hilda Ogden influence.

BlurpBlorp · 30/08/2024 17:23

Blimey, just goes to show how we're all different. The dresses gave me such a wow figure when it normally isn't.

cutiechops · 09/09/2024 14:32

I was trying to think of the name of the dress company mentioned on MN that suited hourglass figures and it literally came back to me today - Bombshell. Then I find out it's gone bust (no pun intended!) so has anyone got other suggestions for the busty- smallish waist - curvy hips body?

yogagivesmepeace · 12/09/2024 19:48

Try Fairlie Curved

Sandwichgen · 03/10/2024 13:08

H'mm. The gown she's wearing in the promo is a bit pantomime dame. I have really liked some of her stuff though so hoping for great things.

AllStyleNoNonsense · 03/10/2024 21:43

Katya Wildman's return is long awaited!
If you know the difference between the ill-fitting bags the high street makes and the exquisite thoughtfully created pieces Katya produces for women of all shapes and sizes, then you understand that finding her dresses is like finding your own gold mine!
Her stunning new purple gown, that has no doubt been designed and made by her, is incredible!
Renaissance French, high fashion vibes may not be everyone's style, but not everyone has style.
