Are Birkenstocks comfy?

I’ve just spent £80 on a pair of Mayaris after struggling the past few summers to find comfy footwear. It’s a lot of money and while I love how they look I’m in 2 minds about keeping them - can anyone advise if they’re comfy/supportive/dont rub please?

I have 2 pairs, gizeh and Arizona big buckle, both the hard footbed. They are my favourites for my feet. The soles feel smooth and comfy after a few wears. I like that my feet feel properly supported and can walk quite a long way in them. I much prefer leather straps than the birkoflor stuff as it feels smoother on my feet.

I love Mayaris. I've been wearing them for years. It seems like a lot of money but they last for years and they're so comfy.
Don't return them. You've made a good choice.

Aposterhasnoname · 03/05/2024 09:04

Mine are the comfiest things I ever wore. They’re practically welded to my feet if the weather is even slightly suitable.

GettingStuffed · 03/05/2024 10:16

You need to mould them to your feet before they get comfortable, once that's done they're really good.

Barbarachicken · 03/05/2024 10:19

I have Arizonas and once worn in they are the most comfortable sandals ever. I wore mine daily last summer & the summer before, and they take a long time to wear out so although expensive initially, they are worth it.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 03/05/2024 10:49

I couldn't get on with Birkenstocks, tried a few styles but they always hurt my feet. I got given a pair of Fitflop Remi years ago which are now my go to sandal, can walk for miles in them. Sadly they seem to be discontinued but I've managed to pick up 3 pairs on Vinted, practically brand new, over the past year

RosesAndHellebores · 03/05/2024 10:53

I think they are marmite. They are the wrong shape for my feet. If you feel they are the right shape for you and nothing nips or rubs on your soft carpet, they may well be OK. I have found that if a pair of shoes feels a bit off or tight at home or on carpet, they will never be comfortable or "wear in".

Clarkes do a similar style which I find very comfy, lots of support and certainly no need to "wear in".

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/05/2024 10:55

I've never found them comfortable, and after trying two pairs I've given up. The footbed doesn't seem to fit my feet or something.

Rebootnecessary · 03/05/2024 10:57

I love my Birkenstocks and have several pairs, including some Myaris. As others have said, they do need a bit of wearing in but I find them incredibly comfortable and can walk miles in them and they last years!

itsnotmeitsu · 03/05/2024 21:21

I have these and they are definitely comfortable.

mrsbyers · 03/05/2024 21:23

I spent all last summer in my first pair of Arizona’s and never had a blister or any rubbing , bought a second pair for this summer to have options but love them and just wish I’d bought them sooner - was in London last weekend and walked 45k steps in them with no issues

PhuckyNell · 03/05/2024 21:29

I have never needed to wear them in they love my feet from day one. I'm a standard size 4 with a high instep, run a little wide, can't wear flat sandals or flip flops unless 'fit flops' with arch support. Just adding info for help! I get standard fit birkies, the Sydney and Mayari are my favourites, Arizona are great but a little blocky looking lion my smaller feet. the gizeh although comfortable doesn't feel as comfy due to a bit of side spillage

TokyoSushi · 03/05/2024 21:43

Don't give up! I wear Madrid's, I find that you do need to persevere a little bit, but once you go through 'the barrier' they're a dream!

StripeySoc · 05/05/2024 04:27

I love my Arizonas I have 2 pairs in suede

I wear them around the house though so not how comfy they'd be outside

I had a pair of Madrids I wore to death one summer and walked everywhere in them

I've never needed to wear mine in.

They've always been comfortable and fitted perfectly fresh frim the box

Lokshen · 05/05/2024 04:37

Love them. I buy a pair of Gizeh every year and then downgrade the last year pair to messy walking.
They take a couple of walks to smooth the footbed but never had a blister. Did manage to dislocate my toe when I tripped up though and the toe post pushed my 2nd toe out. I don't think it was the birkies fault though!!

bradpittsbathwater · 05/05/2024 04:43

I tried a couple of pairs and they were awful. Flapping around does it's being the right size and hard and inflexible.

MrsWimpy · 05/05/2024 04:49

I can't get on with them. They "fart" on my feet and rub terribly.

bradpittsbathwater · 05/05/2024 04:59

@MrsWimpy ha yes I forgot about the farting. I could never wear them outside for that reason.

HoppingPavlova · 05/05/2024 05:19

Comfy as. I’ve always had to wear mine in though so allow for a period of changeover.

pineapplebun82 · 05/05/2024 05:31

I love them, but only the soft bed style.

KatPurrson · 05/05/2024 06:08

As long as you have the right width they are amazingly comfy. Soft footbeds especially so.

RipleyGreen · 05/05/2024 06:13

Alas, they’re not for me, even the narrow are too wide.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2024 06:14

Yes. And they last years!

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2024 06:16

You are apparently supposed to go first a size smaller that what you usually take.

useitorlose · 05/05/2024 06:19

Got two pairs in March. I've worn the Arizonas daily including for walking the dog. They are a 40 narrow regular. My others are a different style with narrow straps and soft footbed. I can feel the difference. They rubbed one toe the first few times but now they don't. The only reason I wear them less is the colour.

Disclaimer: it's at least 30C where I live from March onwards so they get plenty of wear.
