I am about to buy these ugly trainers, but you can save me...

Looking for something to transition from boots to sandals. I am 51, only 5.1" and definitely want the height otherwise my outfits just look like crap, plus I'll have to adjust all my trousers. My style is AllSaints meets Sezane, or so I like to kid myself it is. So!! I was thinking trainers, and these are the ones I have found that provide the most height. Ideally I'd like them to be less white, and I am not even a trainer fan, but I am compromising here. Thoughts?

How long about the Adidas Nizza platform or Grand Court platform?

TheCodingClubClub · 05/05/2024 07:12

Apart from the Geox, the other proposed alternatives are def much better looking, but so much lower in height 🙁

Not suggesting these as an option as they are rather pricey and wedges anyway, but I have a secret love for the Adidas/ Gucci gazelles.

On one minority hand , I personally think platform trainers are the most hideous, unflattering thing ever & look ridiculous on 99.9% of people.

On the other majority hand, I personally think you should wear whatever the heck you like no matter your age or figure.

You don't need anyone else's opinion on you, your look and your life.

Ideas for where to buy, lookalikes, yes ... opinions, no.

Good luck in your quest.

Spanglybangles · 05/05/2024 10:58

Puma have some nice ones, if they are high enough for you.

I just think they make your feet look huge, so I'm not sure they are providing the height elegance you think they are...

I did try to buy some, but in the shop realised I looked ridiculous.

Then, I do wear Air Max trainers with some things, which also add height, and I learned on here are not the thing to wear when you are over 50 as they are for 'young people' but I haven't been tackled to the ground yet so I'm carrying on. They look great with white or denim skirts, plus Air Max come in lots of neutrals if you want to get away from the all white look.

BobnLen · 05/05/2024 11:19

Aren't they a bit hard to drive in

How about some platform low Nike blazers or just plain white Air force 1s. I'm tinier than you and find that they give me a bit of extra height without looking like I'm trying too hard!

I’d go for these of all the suggestions so far. Definitely not the Zara ones. You think they’re ugly, why would you buy and wear them?

I have joined you on the minority hand. And OP, try googling "platform trainers bad for feet"--lots of information out there on how they can mess your feet up and lead to hip and back pain and make it easier to roll your ankle into a bad sprain.

Are they what you want, what you really, really want?

I'm 5ft1 do I now need to start worrying that my outfits look rubbish?

I don't see how the shoes would affect how the outfit looks in relation to your size as it'd still fit the same however high the soles are?

DancingFerret · 05/05/2024 13:22

I'm the same height as the OP and wouldn't touch any footwear with high soles (and definitely not trainers) as they make me look like Minnie Mouse - but, as has already been said, we're all different.🙂

MaryFuckingFerguson · 05/05/2024 13:40

I like a flatform but these whoppers are giving me Baby Spice circa 1995 vibes.

anon1968 · 05/05/2024 15:09

Hi. I’m actually slightly smaller than you, this was me a few years ago, never wore flats, but loved the trainer/dress combo. I bought some very similar (even wore wedge trainers pumps in my 20’s. I’m 55 now) however i realise that they just didn't look nice on me, and kind of spoilt my outfit, i bought platform trainers, plain white and also adidas gazelles etc and soon got used to the lower height, in fact i think my outfits looked better. Give them a try, you honestly might like them. x

Heartbreaktuna · 05/05/2024 15:58

All these platform trainers look like medical shoes to me

TheCodingClubClub · 06/05/2024 08:58

Looks like I won't be buying any and will wear my boots until it's sandal weather!

These would be great. I tend to go for the converse platform trainers, love them and so comfy

XiCi · 06/05/2024 10:42

Don't be put off by a few negative posters OP. Flatform trainers are everywhere and you're bound to come across a pair that you like and are comfortable. I have both of these and love them

@XiCi thank you I like both pairs. What's the height of the platform?

Give the Zara ones a wide berth as they are pleather. The M&S look good value as they are leather.
I bought champions ones last year which are pleather and they made my feet swell and sweat. I’ve just invested in a leather pair in Spain which look like the M&S ones but cost considerably more. I’m very happy with them as I’m looking for height.

@XiCi thank you I like both pairs. What's the height of the platform?

I've got the converse on now and would estimate maybe 2.5 inches
