Help me find a dress for a Royal Garden Party

I am truly rubbish with formal but needs must! I’ve been asked as a plus one to a Royal Garden Party later on in the summer and I need a day dress, shoes, bag and a hat/fascinator.

I’m 5’ 7” and recently put on loads of weight and am no longer a size 10 and am now distinctly pear shaped. Probably a size 14/16.

I’d like something comfortable that looks effortless and skims all the right bits. I’m a big fan of long and floaty generally and love colour and pattern. I don’t want to look dowdy and middle aged, I want to look chic and as though I know how to dress.

Even just website suggestions would be helpful. TIA!

Budget for the dress around £300

Look at SilkFred they have lots of suitable options. You'll need a jacket as it's outside and this is Britain, choose flat or wedged shoes you can stand up in for hours. I also recommend a bag with a strap as you'll be balancing a drink and food. Charity shops are great for hats. I personally would choose an outfit that works with tights in case it's chilly.
