Stylish practical sandals for a beach holiday

Hi, i'm looking at getting some sandals for a beach holiday...I really fancied some Birkenstocks but think the sand and saltwater might ruin them. Are there any sandals that will be an all rounder for a holiday like this? If I'm expecting too much then I might still get the Birkenstocks, then some flip flops for the beach/pool.

I have the vegan (aka plastic) Arizona Birkenstocks. They seem pretty much indestructible. I recently went on a two week tour in SE Asia and they were the only footwear I bought with me. They went from day to evening, fancy restaurants, beaches, rain forest hikes, midi dresses, co-ords and shorts.

Saltwater sandals? I had a pair years ago that I wore non stop for 4 summers in a row - I bought a new pair of the 'Boardwalk' style last year and they are so comfortable, like slippers - and you can wear them in the sea. They are designed to get wet.
