Really desperate for help!

I try to dress well but always manage to somehow not look polished or professional. Am v large & tall, not great legs, large thighs & bum but can 'carry' myself well (if that makes sense). Suit and love colours, but also happy in black. I have very dark hair & eyes, olive skin. Just turned 40 if that makes a difference. Don't care about trends too much (but delighted when I got it right by accident once!).

Will be working soon so need a lot of help finding business 'casual'. Don't need to wear heels (I find I'm too tall anyway). I get hot very easily so no jackets or thick clothing. Tights ok. Don't like showing upper arm.

Thank you to anyone who can help offer advice. I know I'm asking a lot 🙄 I just want to feel confident, comfortable and put together. Have some options.

Really really small budget.

Please please help!!

Did I mention small budget!

You need to be specific about clothing size and budget! We don’t know if you mean a size 16 or 26 …

And what sort of work dress code - formal or casual? Indoor or out? Dress to impress or no one cares?

PinkCockatoo · 29/04/2024 16:12

Oh, sorry.

I'm about a 20 / 22. Budget approximate £150 for lots of pieces (if at all possible). Even just a few items and ideas for when I'm more flush.

Indoor office admin work. Not too formal but professional. No need for jacket and heels however. I'm not sure how to describe it. Every day office wear?

I don't want to impress, well, maybe I do by asking for help. Nothing too fancy.

I hope that has helped but can answer more if you need.

new look and surprisingly river island are my go to places now. I’m obsessed with wide legged pants at the minute and they have some lovely ones.

Thank you. I'll take a look. Do you think wide legged looks OK with a large & tall person? What top do you recommend?

I also like oversized blazers and tapered trousers with loafers

not saying I’m a style guru by the way 🤣

I have a selection of Popsy dresses .
Can wear with tights and boots or shoes and sandals .They wash brilliantly, don't need ironing and can be worn with plain cardigans or scarfs .
I started off with 2 or 3 but now have a large collection and even my originals still look brand new .

I'd pop to primark if you get the chance. I got a lovely blazer down to £10. I dress it down with jeans & tshirt
Also like river island and new look. I bet there will be loads of online sales on over the bank hol weekend
Also Tesco/sainsburys are worth looking at

eta; apologies, realised you're just 40, so maybe this site unsuitable?

PinkCockatoo · 30/04/2024 12:53

Thank you hugely! @Sleepychicken this is perfect, I'll check them all out.
