Where to buy clothes for DS 16yo - 6'5"?

My son is tall and showing no sign of stopping growing. He's got a 30" waist and 36" inside leg. He's 6'5" tall, so long of body as well as leg. But he's a teenager and skinny as a rail.

I'm really having difficulty finding affordable clothes for both smart and casual wear. We've bought everything ASOS has to offer in 30/36 (not that there was much!) Next is useless, as is M&S. I'm not a shopper and google is failing me.

Everywhere I've found online conflates tall with big/heavy - so I might find 36" leg but then find that the item only starts at a 36" waist.

The search is driving me insane! Please help Smile

That's rained on my parade slightly @StuckintheUSA DS is into basketball and wears long basketball shorts pretty much permanently. He was hoping there would be lots of (long) basketball apparel and branded sports stuff. Plus Jordans of course! Luckily we don't have the foot size issue that some of the others have talked about.

Thanks for the other recommendations. I looked at Zara but couldn't make out how to do sizing on their website - they have a tall section but I couldn't find the actual lengths. I can take him into Zara (and Next and M&S etc) when we go shopping after his GCSE's have finished.

I will try Uniqlo and Zalando, thanks @ISeeTheLight . I've never even heard of the later!

I'll sign your letter @Riverlee Grin

DS got a couple of Abercrombie and Fitch tall length t-shirts from his grandparents for Christmas @ArseInTheCoOpWindow and he loves them. They are very nice. He's worn them to death in the last four months and they've washed really well and not shrunk at all.

I find the Next website a 'mare too @CMOTDibbler He did have their XL joggers but even they are short now. DS isn't that bothered about brands but, like most teenage boys, would probably love some Nike or Adidas joggers if such items existed!

I've never heard of Yours @Yorkshirewithlove - I will check them out, thanks.

Thanks to you all; it's been educational and very helpful Smile

Next online has much more tall stuff then shops. Not sure when my ds last purchased clothing directly from a real life high street shop.

Wonder if my son has played your son at basketball? (South east)?

Next caters for tall but unfortunately not tall and very slim unfortunately.

I used to find George at Asda was good for my ds school trousers. They did a 28 ex L

He was a 26 really, but they did the trick.

I think it depends on how body is proportioned some have long bodies and can still get away with a 32’ or 34’ inside leg. Whereas, mine had a shorter body and needs a good 36’ or 38’ leg.

I'm dreading actually taking him to a physical shop. Last time he just slouched around like Lurch from The Addams Family scowling and occasionally grunting. The only time he cheered up a bit was the trip to 5 Guys for lunch!

Perhaps he has played your son - we've found the basketball world to be quite a small one. We're in Berkshire. He plays for his local side and the school. Our local EBL side who we go to see get beaten play is the Surrey Scorchers

Stephen Merchant did a rant on the names of shops for tall people. Might help for when you visit the states.

Another vote for Spoke - got all 6'4 son's work experience trousers there! Levis and their 36" legs are fab.

Also recommend 2tall.com - they go up to a 40" inside leg and have (holy grail) tracksuit bottoms in these sizes, with waists starting from 28", plus extra long t-shirts. A lot of 'normal man sized' tees can look a bit like crop tops on taller folk!

lovepotionnumbernine · 30/04/2024 15:44

Following with interest. I also have a skinny giant and it's soooo much fun shopping for/with him.

SuperGreens · 30/04/2024 16:32

Zara has worked well for us, their clothes tend to run 'skinny'.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/04/2024 18:06

This company is based in Canada, but they do appear to ship overseas.

https://americantall.com/

DH is 6'5" and we really like the things we've gotten, they fit well, and good quality material. Their shipping time isn't the fastest, but maybe we're spoilt with Amazon's 2 day shipping. It takes about 10 working days to get to us in California from wherever their warehouse is in Eastern Canada.

@jay55 - DS came in while I was watching that and now wants someone to create a clothing line called "Lanky Wanker.com" Grin I think they could corner the market.

Thanks all. I'm a sad case so I've been copying and saving these company names in a word doc Blush to come back to when I need inspiration.

Tell him we will definitely place an order 😂

Glassbottom · 11/09/2024 21:57

I know this is an old thread but the issue still remains. The regular ASOS trousers, that all need replacing, are no longer available in 38inch length. Did anyone have any joy in finding long legged trousers, cargos etc for teens thanks

Vestito · 12/09/2024 07:52

2tall.com - have good range of properly long stuff
Jack & Jones - good for jeans, cargos etc but longer lengths not in the smaller waist sizes like 30”.

SweatySpaghetti · 12/09/2024 08:31

Dh is 6’6 and very slim. His best places to shop are H&M (long-line T-shirts and jumpers especially), boohoo men tall section, primark sometimes do longline t-shirts (everything else is far too short but the longline t-shirts are often about £7 and don’t last that many washes before shrinking but good in a pinch!)
that’s honestly pretty much it unfortunately!

Waspie · 12/09/2024 10:28

@Glassbottom luckily DS is still okay 36" inside leg so we don't have the 38" issue (yet). The most reliable site I've found for reasonably priced trousers is Boohoo man.

2Tall is great but their trousers are twice the price of ASOS/Boohoo, so it depends on your budget. They aren't particularly "on trend" but beggars can't be choosers.

We really need our boys to get together and set up "Lanky Wankers.com" Grin

Pleased to see this thread is active again !

Just bought jeans for DS1 from Hollister - he only needed 30’34 but they had a variety of waist and leg lengths . Sadly the cargos sold out very quickly though .

I’ve also started taking a small tuck in larger waistbands for my younger one to wear his brother’s castoffs . As they wear stuff over the top it’s easily hidden . DS2 who is very fussy doesn’t mind

Waspie · 12/09/2024 15:01

Thanks @Choresavoidance - I hadn't thought of Hollister. Online they go up to 36" inside leg in some styles. I'm glad your DS2 is enjoying his expanded wardrobe!

My personal bugbear is joggers/sweat pants. Often even it they profess to be "long length" they are at best 33". Boohoo Man are the only ones I've found which are decently long.

My thoughts are turning to Birthday (November) and Christmas. I try and spread out purchases from September onwards to try and make the bills less painful. A pair of Hollister Jeans and a t-shirt/jumper would go down well with DS.

Thank you for more suggestions. The ASOS 38inch cargos were perfect but starting to fade. Maybe it would be easy to dye them rather than find 38"L

So many taller teens now can't believe it's still such a struggle.

We need to register the domain name quickly 😁

Waspie · 18/09/2024 16:22

We really do @Glassbottom! Did you dye the cargos in the end?

I had thought my frustrations of the spring to be over as I'd managed to get t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, shirts and even two suits for sixth form. But no, today comes the request for a pair of navy joggers for school rugby training. They have to be navy and not too much branding. The school's own pair are only 30" inside leg which is obviously no use to us. They have some on 2Tall but they are £40 a pair, which seems excessive.

I have ordered an X Long pair from Next - fingers crossed they will be close enough to reaching his ankles that they won't look too awful.

My son is the same height and he wears bad Rhino and gets stuff from Jacamo

Glassbottom · 18/09/2024 17:56

I haven't dyed them as yet but I will definitely try to. I have ordered some G star 38inch which are far more expensive than I wanted to pay but we are getting desperate now . Can't believe it's this difficult.

I used to dread clothing requests from school. The blazer was a nightmare every year. Hope you manage to find more reasonably priced joggers

LadyLapsang · 18/09/2024 22:36

Worth checking in periodically with T K Maxx, at the moment they have jeans from Boss, Levi’s and others from 28L up at £39.99.
