Where to buy clothes for DS 16yo - 6'5"?

My son is tall and showing no sign of stopping growing. He's got a 30" waist and 36" inside leg. He's 6'5" tall, so long of body as well as leg. But he's a teenager and skinny as a rail.

I'm really having difficulty finding affordable clothes for both smart and casual wear. We've bought everything ASOS has to offer in 30/36 (not that there was much!) Next is useless, as is M&S. I'm not a shopper and google is failing me.

Everywhere I've found online conflates tall with big/heavy - so I might find 36" leg but then find that the item only starts at a 36" waist.

The search is driving me insane! Please help Smile

We're going to the States in July and top of DS' clothing wish list is branded joggers!

Bless him - my DS1 is 28 waist and 34ish leg so feel your pain ( only 6ft1 though) … i think I’m probably going to have to get what he likes and get our local dry cleaners to alter the waist - appreciate bit harder with the longer leg length but may still be an option if an expensive way of doing it . As he gets older there is Spoke and Brooktaverners .

I'm sensing a business opportunity..
Maybe we need to order from the Netherlands- they all seem to be super tall there!

Actually that’s not a bad shout, anyone know any Netherlands clothing stores that will deliver to UK?

SlipperyLizard · 29/04/2024 12:50

DH is 34 waist 36 leg, can’t shop on the high street at all but we buy all his trousers from Next online - X Long is available in quite a few styles.

Riverlee · 29/04/2024 12:52

My son is 6’ 5” also. He buys everything online, including Next, ASOS etc.

BollockstoThis1 · 29/04/2024 12:54

If you haven’t already maybe try Burtons Tall, Boohoo Tall, Slaters menswear or 2Tall.com.

Also join Tall Persons Club on Facebook and or Long Tall Families Facebook group for tips.

I have two tall DSs. I find it easy enough to get jeans - as well as Levis/Hollister etc, I found Jack & Jones to have a good enough choice across all the trouser types. Though I think the longer legs for some styles start at a 34” waist. Next do longer legs in the PJs.

But joggers? Nightmare. I used to buy from 2tall.com for school - needed plain black. But as they got older they wanted braided stuff. Nike have a tall range which was ok but really more a 34” leg but better than nothing. But it is never in stock.

It baffles me that most companies make jeans and trousers in a full range of sizes but often have one length only for joggers/tracksuits etc. Do they think that tall men don’t play sport/chill???

Boohoo tall - got a pair of jeans there - it was actually very long, much longer than normal long. Haven’t tried the joggers.

My friend has a 6ft 5 young teen and they are currently getting away with Boohoo joggers.

Spoke! Thank you @Choresavoidance I met a young man recently who is 6'8" and I asked him where he got his clothes. He said he lives in Levis and, if he has to, uses Spoke. But then I completely forgot the brand name.

DS will need suits for his sixth form from September so if Next and M&S can't rise to the challenge at least I have an alternative - albeit an expensive one.

@dandel10ns good tip! DS has been in age 17-18 M&S extra long school trews for three years! Honestly he now wears them practically around the crotch and they are at least 3 cm off the top of his ankle! I don't care now though - he's doing GCSE's starting this week so I'm not buying more school trousers - yippee! So, whilst that problem has resolved itself the new problem of a "business type suit" that is the sixth form uniform is now looming. I'll worry about that in the summer Smile

My Ds is similar height and build to yours op.

He got a suit from Slaters for his prom. The measurements sounded too short but the trousers actually fitted I think or they maybe let them down slightly and they let down the sleeves free of the jacket free of charge. It’s worth trying a few on. He also got a cheap black suit for Uni formals for £79 which is still going strong.

Also 2Tall is great for PJ bottoms and the odd plain t shirt.

DS has also reluctantly accepted some Crew plain T shirts in XL which are an ok fit.

Levi jeans fit well and you can often pick them up on Ebay if you know the exact style and measurements. He can try them on in-store to get an idea of cut and size.

He also has one pair of jeans from Boohoo.

Sadly a lot of companies equate tall to being big built so if you have a tall slim DS its a struggle.

Waspie · 29/04/2024 16:48

Thanks @BollockstoThis1 - I have never heard of Slaters but I've bookmarked them now Smile Interestingly (to me anyway) the blurb on their suits says that trouser length will be 6" smaller/shorter than chest size. For DS it's almost the same: 38" chest and 36" leg! If there is a good hem we can try a 40" chest and 34" trousers and then get them altered at the dry cleaners. It's a good option anyway. I think, like everyone's sons on this thread, he's just going to have to get used to hunting around for things that fit.

I like 2Tall but I think I've caught them at a bad time as pretty much everything DS liked the look of was sold out in his size. I'll try them again in a few weeks.

I've been trying to avoid expensive jeans while he's still growing as I've spent the past 16 years sending barely worn jeans to the charity shop, or handing them down to friends. If I thought he'd get a decent amount of wear from them I'd happily spend the £100+ to buy Levi's or Diesel.

If you know the Levi style you can filter waist size 30’ and leg length 36’. Yes they are pre owned but you can sometimes pick a pair up for under £30 on Ebay.

Waspie · 29/04/2024 17:17

Pre-owned is fine by me, thanks, I'll give that a try Smile

In case it helps DH has just had the waist altered at the dry cleaners on a pair of chinos - it cost £21.50 ( we are Thames Valley) in case anyone is weighing up something like Spoke as opposed to altering something from the High Street

StuckintheUSA · 29/04/2024 17:46

I'm not sure that you're going to have better luck here in the US. DS15 is nearly 6'3" with a 28-inch waist. It's very difficult to find trousers that fit him, and all his joggers are a couple of inches too short. Shops like Dick's Sporting Goods have a large selection, but they never carry his size. You have to buy online if you want any size that isn't average.

Some of the shops have longer jeans (maybe Hollister?), but a lot of the places near us (H&M for instance), don't even stock teen sizes. For those, you have to visit the outlets.

Men in the UK are taller than here in the US. Sometimes we see very tall men, but my son is taller than nearly all his friends at school. Luckily, we're getting some warmer weather now, so he can live in shorts until October. But even the shorts are far too short for his long legs.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 29/04/2024 17:52

In a similar situation here so watching with interest!

I second the JL school trousers in long length - my DS is not yet at the height of some of those mentioned on this thread but has very long legs.

BollockstoThis1 · 29/04/2024 18:03

Also not helpful for leisure wear but a few good belts help.

itsmylife7 · 29/04/2024 18:06

Try " 2Tall " they start at 6ft.5" and are for slim, very tall men.

Twwodoorsaway · 29/04/2024 18:12

My also very tall son used to find suit direct was good for suits, can select different jacket and trouser sizes. If you have a designer outlet nearby we used to get some great bargains, as the long sizes and small sizes were often available at good prices. We have a MacArthur Glen near us.

CMOTDibbler · 29/04/2024 18:18

Mine is also slim and 6'5. His suits have come from ASOS (they even have the fabled tall fit waistcoat) and joggers from Next (though I find Next a beggar to navigate to find the tall/ long fit). Thankfully he isn't bothered by brands, but even his joggers are looking a bit short currently

Yorkshirewithlove · 29/04/2024 18:23

Yours caters for tall men also

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/04/2024 18:53

Abercrombie and Fitch do longer length stuff

ISeeTheLight · 29/04/2024 18:57

Have you tried Uniqlo?
Zalando sells some Dutch brands, eg WE Fashion.

Riverlee · 29/04/2024 20:01

Tall dc has just ordered some jeans from Zara that fit. He did the ‘find my size’ thingey. Possibly had to size up on the waist, but the length looks good.

Regarding joggers, on my ‘to do’ list is to write to Nike et all and ask why their basketball range doesn’t come in tall sizes, a sport known for having tall people!
